Events Week 16 – 7th August
Dear Members,
Please read the attached document which details the bowling events involving our Club during the week beginning Monday 7 August.
Firstly, congratulations to Theresa Blair who beat Jean Meiklejohn in a very good Ladies’ Championship Final last Saturday. The match was a credit to both players. Well done, Theresa and commiserations, Jean.
On Monday afternoon, we are hosting the EWBA Top Ten final between Braid B.C. and Colinton B.C. at 2.00pm. Please try to get along to the Club to see some of the best lady bowlers in Edinburgh in action.
We are hosting the Ladies’ Water of Leith Championships semi-finals on Wednesday afternoon at 2.00pm. We have 6 ties on the green. Our Singles representative (Faye Stevens) will be taking on Carrickknowe B.C., the Pairs (Pat Clark and Evelyn Lowe) will be in action against Currie B.C. and the Triples (Theresa Blair, Pat Reid and Joan Mitchell) will also have a match against Currie B.C. All the best, ladies.
On Thursday evening our Ladies’ representatives have games in the EBA Knockouts competitions. Chris Bentley, our representative in the Singles, will take on Seafield B.C. at Craigentinny and our Triples (Faye Stevens, Pat Reid and Theresa Blair) will be in action against Goldenacre B.C. at Summerside. Both of these ties start at 6.45pm. Good luck, girls.
Our Gents’ Singles (Stuart Campbell) has a game against Colinton B.C. at Sighthill in the EBA Knockouts on Thursday evening at 6.45pm. Stick in, Stuart.
On Friday afternoon, our remaining representatives in the Senior Gents’ EBA Knockouts continue their campaign. The Pairs (Bernie Callaghan and David Sutherland) have a match against Tanfield B.C. at West End at 2.00pm. All the best, guys.
The annual Hyland Rigg Trophy competition for Senior Gents will be held on Friday 11 August at 2.00pm. We are sure that everyone involved will have a very enjoyable afternoon.
Both Gents’ Championship semi-finals are scheduled for 6.30pm on Friday 11 August. These games involve David Sutherland against Andy Lomax and Stuart Campbell against Clint Cassidy. Please try to get along to the Club to support all 4 players in these matches.
On Sunday 13 August, our Ladies have their annual Clark Fours on the green at 1.30pm. We are sure that everyone involved will have a great afternoon.
Also on Sunday, our EBA Mixed Rink (Faye Stevens, Chris Bentley, Ricky Stevens and Bill Cumming) will have their semi-final game against Tanfield B.C. at Queensberry at 6.30pm. Good luck, guys.
Finally, a wee heads-up for some upcoming events :
1. The Gents will have their annual Friendly at home to Blackhall B.C. on Wednesday 16 August at 6.15pm. There is a list on the Gents’ Noticeboard for those gents wishing to play in this match.
2. The annual Cathy Connet Trophy competition will be held on the green on Saturday 19 August starting at 2.00pm. There is a list on the ‘Mixed’ Noticeboard for those members who wish to take part in this very enjoyable afternoon.
3. We are holding the annual Sanderson Invitation Triples on the green on Saturday 26 August. There is a list for names of participants in this competition on the ‘Mixed’ Noticeboard.
4. The eagerly-awaited Ladies versus Gents match is scheduled for Sunday 27 August at 2.00pm. There will be lists on both the Ladies’ and Gents’ Noticeboards for those members wishing to play.
5. The annual Ladies’ Page Two-Bowl Pairs will be held on Monday 28 August starting at 2.00pm. There is a list on the Ladies’ Noticeboard for those ladies who would like to participate in this competition.
6. In a wee change of approach, we are holding the Senior Ladies’ Triples competition on Saturday 2 September (start times to be announced). There is a list for names of participants in this competition on the Senior Ladies’ Noticeboard.
