Dear Members,

Please read the attached document which details the bowling events involving our Club during the week beginning Monday 19 May.

Our Bowls Scotland Seniors’ representatives in the Singles (Jim MacKay and George Richardson) will both be in action on Monday afternoon with Jim taking on Colinton B.C. at Coltbridge and George against Beechwood B.C. at Currie. In addition, our Bowls Scotland Senior Fours representatives will begin their campaign on Monday afternoon. Bobby Brown, Bill Cumming, Clint Cassidy and David McNiven have a match against Ardmillan B.C. at Balerno while Ricky Stevens, Jim Connor, David Sutherland and Bernie Callaghan will take on Juniper Green B.C. at Sighthill. All of these games start at 2.00pm. All the best, guys. At the same time, we have 3 Bowls Scotland Senior Singles and Fours ties on our green.

Our Gents’ Bowls Scotland representatives in the District 15 competitions have games on Tuesday evening at 6.45pm. One of our Singles representatives (Jim MacKay) has a match against Coltbridge B.C. at Balerno. At the same time, one of our Pairs representatives (Ricky Stevens and George Richardson) will play Craigmillar Park B.C. at Lutton Place while the other (John Matear and John P Simpson) compete against Currie B.C. at Coltbridge. Good luck, guys.

Then, on Thursday evening at 6.45pm, our representative in the EBA Ladies’ Aussie Pairs competition (Ronnie McLaren and Pat Clark) will take on Mayfield B.C. at Blackhall. At the same time, our Gents’ representative in the EBA Set Singles (Iain Norton) is in action against Merchiston B.C. at Leith and our representatives in the EBA Aussie Pairs (Keith Bennett and Scott Jackson) have a match against Maitland B.C. at Liberton. Stick in, guys and gals. We are also hosting 5 ties in the various EBA competitions on Thursday evening.

One of our representatives in the Bowls Scotland Mixed Pairs (Pat Reid and Bernie Callaghan) will be in action on Sunday 25 May with a match at Carrickknowe against Sighthill B.C. at 6.30pm. At the same time, hopefully our other team (Joan Mitchell and Alan Mather Jnr) will also compete at Mayfield. All the best, gals and guys.

Finally, a wee ‘heads-up’ on some upcoming events :

  1. The Senior Gents have their annual Bob Horsham Trophy game at 2.00pm on Friday 6 June. There is a list on the Seniors’ Notice-board for those wishing to be involved.
  2. Please note that the lists for the Senior Gents’ Nominated Pairs and Drawn Triples will be removed from the Noticeboard on Monday 19 May. There is still time to add your names to the lists if you want to participate. We are looking for one more senior gent to make up the numbers for the Triples.
  3. We will take on Queensberry B.C, at home on Sunday 8 June at 2.00pm in the first round of the EBA Gents’ Top Five Singles. The team is Stuart Campbell, Jim MacKay, Brian Sharp, John P Simpson and Ricky Stevens. Please try to get along to the green to support the guys in this match.
  4. On Saturday 14 June, we will be hosting the Finals of the Ladies’ Bowls Scotland District 15 competitions starting at 10.00am. Please try to get along to the Club to support the Ladies in their quest to get to the National Championships at Ayr, Northfield in July.
  5. The annual Gents’ Friendly against Carrickknowe B.C. will be held away on Saturday 21 June starting at 2.00pm. There is a list on the Gents’ Noticeboard for those members who wish to play in this very enjoyable day. We are looking for 6 rinks for this match.

Dear members,

Please read the attached document which details the bowling events involving our Club during the week beginning Monday 12 May.

Our Ladies begin their EBA League campaign on Monday evening with an away match at Carrickknowe B.C. at 6.30pm. All the best, girls.

Our Ladies’ Pairs (Faye Stevens and Joan Mitchell) and Triples (Mo Crighton, Pat Reid and Michelle Keoune) kick off their Bowls Scotland campaigns next weekend. On Saturday 17 May, Faye and Joan have a match against Currie B.C. at 2.00pm at Juniper Green and, if successful, they will have another game at Juniper on Sunday at 10.30am. The Triples will take on Craigmillar Park B.C. at Currie at 11.00am on Saturday 17 May and, if successful, will have another match at Currie on the Sunday at 11.00am. Good luck, ladies.

On Sunday 18 May, one of our Bowls Scotland Mixed Pairs teams (Joan Mitchell and Alan Mather Jnr) will start their journey with a match against Merchiston B.C. at Juniper Green at 6.30pm. All the best, Joan and Alan.

Please note that the closing date for entry into this season’s Pairs (Blyth, Club and Birnie), Davis Triples and Walker Fours competitions is Monday 12 May. So, there is still time to add your names to the lists on the Mixed and Gents’ Noticeboards. We would also encourage those members who have their names on the ‘Help Sheets’ on the Gents’ and Mixed Noticeboards to approach others on the Sheets to form teams for these competitions.

Finally, the first Gents’ Friendly of the season against Gala Abbotsford B.C. is scheduled for Saturday 17 May at 2.00pm at home. We are sure that everyone involved will have a wonderful afternoon.

Please read the attached document which details the bowling events involving our Club during the week beginning Monday 5 May.

Our North & West Senior Gents kick off their League campaigns on Tuesday afternoon with our ‘A’ team away to Willowbrae B.C. and our ‘B’ team at home to Dean B.C. at 1.45pm. All the best, guys.

The first Gents’ EBA league matches will take place on Wednesday 7 May at 6.30pm with the First XVI away to Wardie B.C. while our Second XVI take on Carrickknowe B.C. at home and the Third Team play Summerside B.C. also at home. Stick in, boys.

Our Ladies’ Singles representative (Chris Bentley) and Fours (Jane Mitchell, Vicky Page, Marcia Norton and Evelyn Lowe) all kick off their Bowls Scotland campaigns next weekend. On Saturday 10 May, Chris has a match against Beechwood B.C. ‘A’ at 2.00pm at Braid and, if successful, she will have another game at Braid on Sunday at 11.00am. Our Fours will compete against Sighthill B.C. at 11.00am on Sunday 11 May at Liberton. Good luck, ladies.

Please note that the closing date for entry into this season’s Pairs (Blyth, Club and Birnie), Davis Triples and Walker Fours competitions is Monday 12 May. Dear Members,

Please read the attached document which details the bowling events involving our Club during the week beginning Monday 28 April.

On Monday afternoon, our Ladies team have their first Heather League match against Coltbridge B.C. with one rink at home and one away. Good luck, girls.

Then, on Wednesday 30 April, our Gents’ First and Second XVIs will be competing in the EBA John Sharp Trophy. We will have two First XVI rinks and two Second XVI rinks at home and two each away from home. Please see the list on the Gents’ Noticeboard with the teams and the venues for each of our rinks. Stick in, guys.

The RMBA League matches kick off on Thursday afternoon. Our ‘A’ team are at home to Merchiston B.C. while the ‘B’ team are away to Leith B.C. All the best, guys.

On Saturday (3 May), we have this year’s Try Bowls session. It starts at Noon and is an opportunity for family and friends to come along to the Club and have a wee game of bowls. It is aimed at those who have not played the game before but is open to all. Please invite your chums to have a go – who knows, we may get additional members out of it!!

The Gents will have their annual Bowling Day at 2.00pm on Sunday 4 May. There is a list on the Gents’ Notice-board for those wishing to play. Please add your name to this list as this will help with the organisation of both the bowling and the catering. Please note that dress for this event will be ‘smart, casual’.

Finally, a couple of reminders. The lists for entry to the Blyth Pairs, Club Pairs, Birnie Pairs, Davis Triples and Walker Fours are currently on the Notice-boards and need to be completed by Monday 12 May. The first Gents’ Friendly of the season at home to Gala Abbotsford B.C. will be held at 2.00pm on Saturday 17 May. The list for players for this match is on the Notice-board in the Clubhouse and we are looking for 5 triples. Please add your name to the list if you are available.

Dear Members,

Please read the attached document which details the bowling events involving our Club during the week beginning Monday 21 April.

While it is only the first week of the season, there are a few things happening but the number of events will grow as the season progresses. There will be an e-mail each week with the forthcoming events. We hope that you continue to find it useful. A copy will be posted on the ‘Events Board’ in the Clubhouse and on the website.

The Ladies’ Opening Day will be held at 2.00pm on Monday 21 April. We are sure everyone involved will have a great afternoon.

Our Ladies have their first Water of Leith League match at home to Sighthill B.C. on Wednesday 23 April at 2.15pm. Good luck, girls.

There will be a ‘practice’ match on Wednesday 23 April at 6.15pm for all players involved in the Gents’ Edinburgh Bowling Association teams. A copy of the Teams selected for this game is attached for information. Please check the Notice-board in the locker-room and, if selected but unavailable to play, let Bernie Callaghan know. Please note that dress for this event will be ‘smart, casual’ – no need for Club dress.

The Gents will have their annual Bowling Day at 2.00pm on Sunday 4 May. There is a list on the Gents’ Notice-board for those wishing to play. Please add your name to this list as this will help with the organisation of both the bowling and the catering. Again please note that dress for this event will be ‘smart, casual’.

Lists for entry to the Birnie Mixed Pairs and the Club Pairs competitions are now on the ‘Mixed’ Notice-board while those for entry to the Blyth Pairs, the Davis Triples and the Walker Fours are on the Gents’ Notice-board. These have to be completed by Monday 12 May.

Finally, there is a list on the Gents’ Noticeboard for members wishing to play in the annual Friendly at home to Gala Abbotsford B.C. on Saturday 17 May at 2.00pm. Please add your name if you are able to be involved.

Congratulations to the following who won their Competition Finals last week :

– Sandy Lyon for the Senior Gents’ Two-Bowl
– Theresa Blair and Bernie Callaghan for the Birnie Mixed Pairs

– George Oliver for the Vice-President’s
– Chris Bentley for the Ladies’ Two-Bowl
– Sandy Lyon and Bill Cumming for the Club Pairs

There are two Finals scheduled this week. On Monday, at 11.00am, Beryl Sutherland and Joan Mitchell will be in action against Gladys Christie and Chris Bentley in the Ladies’ Nominated Pairs. Then, on Thursday, at 3.30pm, the Senior Gents’ Nominated Pairs final involving Frank Ross and Bill Cumming against Les Brown and Ricky Stevens will take place. All the best, ladies and gents. Please try to get along to the Club to support the players in these matches.

Our Senior Gents’ RMBA ‘A’ team have their Top Ten semi-final away to Brunstane B.C. on Monday afternoon at 1.30pm. All the best, guys.

Our Ladies have their annual Friendly at home to Carrickknowe B.C. at 2.00pm on Tuesday 17 September. We are sure everyone taking part will have a great afternoon.

On Wednesday afternoon at 1.30pm, our Seniors’ Top Ten will take on Carrickknowe B.C. at Tanfield in the semi-final of this competition. Stick in, guys

If we are successful on Monday afternoon, our RMBA Top Ten team will take on either Hillside B.C. or Craigentinny B.C. in the Final at Craigentinny on Thursday afternoon at 1.30pm.

Then, on Friday 22 September, the Ladies’ Closing Day will take place and, on Saturday 23 September, the Club Closing Day is scheduled. Both of these events start at 2.00pm on the green. What a quick season it has been. Doesn’t time fly when you are enjoying yourself!!!

It has been agreed that the green will remain open for another week after Closing Day – primarily for the completion of Mini League games.

Firstly, huge congratulations to our Senior Gents’ North & West Fours (Angus McGarry, Peter Anderson, Sandy Powell and Les Brown) who won their Knockout Final against Tanfield B.C. last Tuesday afternoon. Well done, guys – a cracking result.

Unfortunately, commiserations to our North & West Senior Gents’ Triples (John Cowe, David McGuire and Brian Howe) who lost their Knockout Final to Dean B.C. last Tuesday at Dean in a very tight match. Hard lines, guys – but a great achievement in getting there.

Congratulations are also due to the following who won their Competition Finals last week :

– Faye Stevens, Ann Barr and Margaret Thomson for the Senior Ladies’ Triples
– Joan Mitchell for the Ladies’ Isobel Callaghan Rosebowl
– Dougie Wilson and George Richardson for the Gents’ Blyth Pairs
– Joe Blair for the Gents’ Two-Bowl

There are several Finals scheduled for this week.

  1. On Tuesday 10 September at 11.00am, the Final of the Ladies’ Sutherland Quaich between Pat Clark and Joan Mitchell will take place
  2. Also on the Tuesday, at 3.30pm, Jim MacKay and Bernie Callaghan will compete in the Senior Gents’ Championship
  3. On Thursday 12 September at 4.00pm, the Final of the Senior Gents’ Two-Bowl between Sandy Lyon and Bernie Callaghan will be held
  4. On Saturday 14 September at Noon, the Birnie Mixed Pairs involving Joan Mitchell and Alan Mather Jnr against Theresa Blair and Bernie Callaghan
  5. On Sunday 15 September at 2.00pm,

– the Ladies’ Two Bowl between Beryl Sutherland and Chris Bentley
– Scott Bremner and Tom Wallace will play in the President’s Final
– the Club Pairs involving Sandy Lyon and Bill Cumming against Gladys Christie and Bernie Callaghan
– On the same day, at 4.00pm, Chris Roxburgh and George Oliver will compete in the Vice-President’s Final

The Ladies’ Page Two-Bowl Pairs competition will be played at 1.00pm on Monday 9 September. The draw is on the Ladies’ Noticeboard.

The Senior Gents’ Top Ten quarter-final is scheduled for 1.30pm on Wednesday 11 September. We will take on Summerside B.C. away from home in this match. All the best, guys.

The annual game between the Ladies and the Senior Gents for the Carruth Trophy will be played at 2.00pm on Wednesday 11 September. We are sure everyone taking part will have a great afternoon.

We are hosting the RMBA Knockouts Final on the green at 1.30pm on Thursday 12 September. Please try to get along to the Club to see some very good bowlers in action.

The annual Senior Gents’ Friendly away to Carrickknowe B.C. will be held at 2.00pm on Friday 13 September. A very enjoyable afternoon will be had by all involved!!

Firstly, huge congratulations to our EWBA Fours (Jane Mitchell, Pat Reid, Marcia Norton and Evelyn Lowe) who won their Final against Blackhall B.C. at Carrickknowe yesterday (Saturday) afternoon. Well done, girls. A wonderful achievement.

Also, congratulations to the following who won their Finals last week :

  1. Andy Lomax, Frank Ross, David Sutherland and Brian Sharp for the Gents’ Walker Fours
  2. Chris Bentley who won the Senior Ladies’ Championship
  3. Ally Gibson, John Wilson and Ricky Stevens for the Senior Gents’ Triples
  4. Andy Lomax, David Sutherland and John P Simpson who won the Gents’ Davis Triples

Well done, guys and gals.

Jim MacKay will compete in the EBA Tait Trophy (Champion of Champions) this week. His first game will be against the London Road Foundry B.C. champion on Friday evening at 6.15pm at Northern. If Jim wins this match, then he will have potentially two games on Saturday 7 September at 11.00am and 2.00pm at Slateford. Then, if successful in these games, he will compete in the semi-final and (potentially) the final at Parkside B.C. on Sunday 8 September at 11.00am and 2.00pm respectively. All the best, Jim. Please try to get along to support him if you can.

Please note that the draw for this season’s Murdoch Trophy is now on the ‘Mixed’ Noticeboard. This draw involves the finalists of 8 qualifying competitions over the year. Please check the Noticeboard for the closing dates for each round. The date for the first round matches is Friday 6th September.

Our Ladies have their annual Friendly at home to Blackhall B.C. on Tuesday afternoon at 2.00pm. We are sure that everyone involved will have a great time.

Also on Tuesday afternoon, the Senior Gents’ North & West Knockout Finals will be held at Dean at 1.45pm. Our Triples (John Cowe, David McGuire and Brian Howe) will take on Dean B.C. and our Fours (Angus McGarry, Peter Anderson, Sandy Powell and Les Brown) will be in action against Tanfield B.C. Stick in, guys. Please try to get along to Dean to support the guys in these matches if you can.

We are hosting the annual ‘RugBowl’ competition between Corstorphine Rugby Club and ourselves on the green at 2.00pm on Sunday 8 September. We are still looking for members to take part in this very enjoyable day. Please add your name to the list on the ‘Mixed’ Noticeboard.

We have three Finals scheduled for this week.

On Monday 2 September at 2.00pm, the Final of the Ladies’ Isobel Callaghan Rosebowl between Laura MacKay and Joan Mitchell will be held.

The Final of the Gents’ Blyth Pairs with Dougie Wilson and George Richardson taking on John Matear and John P Simpson will take place at 5.00pm on Wednesday 4 September.

Then, on Thursday 5 September at 6.00pm, Joe Blair will play Scott Mitchell in the Gents’ Two-Bowl Final.

  1. The Ladies’ Page Two-Bowl Pairs competition will be held at 1.00pm on Monday 9 September. The draw is posted on the Ladies’ Noticeboard.
  2. On Wednesday 11 September, the annual Ladies v Senior Gents for the Carruth Trophy is scheduled at 2.00pm. Each side will consist of 3 rinks and the teams will be on the Noticeboards before the match.
  3. The annual Senior Gents’ Friendly away to Carrickknowe B.C. is scheduled for 2.00pm on Friday 13 September. We are still looking for 3 players to make up the full squad of six rinks for this match. Please add your names to the list on the Senior Gents’ Noticeboard if you can participate in this excellent afternoon.
  4. The Ladies have their annual Friendly at home to Carrickknowe B.C. on Tuesday 17 September at 2.00pm. The teams for this match are posted on the Ladies’ Noticeboard.
