Events Week 21 – 7th September

Please read the attached document which details the bowling events involving our Club during the week beginning Monday 7 September.
 

Firstly, commiserations to our Senior Gents’ North & West Fours (Tom Wallace, Neil Gowans, Les Brown and David McNiven) who lost their Knockouts Final to Queensberry B.C. last Tuesday in a very close match.  Hard lines, guys.  But well done in getting to the Final.
 

Congratulations are due to the following who won their Competition Finals last week :

There are several Finals scheduled for this week.

 

1. On Monday 7 September at 5.30pm, the Gents’ Davis Triples involving Ricky Stevens, David Sutherland and Andy Lomax taking on Joe Blair, Bernie Callaghan and David McNiven

2. On Thursday 10 September at 3.30pm, the re-arranged Senior Ladies’ Championship between Marcia Norton and Michele Keoune  

3. On Saturday 12 September at 2.00pm, the Gents’ Walker Fours with Jim MacKay, Brian Henaghen, Clint Cassidy and Stuart Campbell in action against Iain Ferrier, Gordon Birnie, Gordon Munro and Bill Cumming 

4. Also on Saturday 12 September at 2.00pm, the Senior Gents’ Nominated Pairs with John Donoghue and Andy Lees taking on Bobby Brown and David McNiven 

 

All the best to everyone involved.  Please try to get along to the Club to support the players in these matches.
 

The semi-finals of the RMBA Knockouts will be held on Monday 7 September at 1.30pm with our ‘A’ team taking on Postal B.C. away and our ‘B’ team in action against Brunstane B.C. at home.  If the guys are successful in these matches, they will then be involved in the Final at Hillside at 1.30pm on Thursday 10 September.  All the best, boys.

 

The annual game between the Ladies and the Senior Gents for the Carruth Trophy will be played at 2.00pm on Wednesday 9 September. We are sure everyone taking part will have a great afternoon.

 

The annual Senior Gents’ Friendly away to Carrickknowe B.C. will be held at 2.00pm on Friday 11 September. We are still looking for 3 players to make up the 6 rinks required for this match.  Please add your names to the list on the Senior Gents’ Noticeboard and/or contact Les Brown if you can play in this match.  A very enjoyable afternoon will be had by all involved!!

 

We are hosting the annual Ladies’ EWBA Charity Triples competition on the green at 10.00am on Sunday 13 September.  This is always a very good day for the Clubs involved and helps raise funds for this year’s Charity.

 

Finally, a wee heads-up for some upcoming events :
 

1. The Ladies have their annual Friendly at home to Carrickknowe B.C. on Friday 18 September at 2.00pm. The teams for this match are on the Ladies’ Noticeboard.

2. The ‘Closing Day’ cabaret will be held on Saturday 19 September at 7.30pm.  There is a list on the table in the Main Hall for those members (and friends) who wish to go.

3. The Ladies’ Closing Day is scheduled for Friday 25 September at 2.00pm

4. The Club Closing Day will take place on Saturday 26 September at 2.00pm.

5. Please note that the annual Presentation of Prizes will be held on Saturday 31 October starting at 7.30pm.  We would encourage all members to attend if they can.

Events Week 20 – 31st August

Dear Members,

 

Please read the attached document which details the bowling events involving our Club during the week beginning Monday 31 August.
 

Firstly, huge congratulations to Stuart Campbell who won the Gents’ Championship Final last Wednesday evening against Frank Ross in a very entertaining match. Well done, Stuart and, hard lines, Frank.

 

Then, on Saturday afternoon at Braid, our EWBA Pairs representatives (Faye Stevens and Joan Mitchell) beat Merchiston B.C. in their Final.  Congratulations, ladies. A great achievement.

 

Congratulations to our Ladies’ Water of Leith Triples (Faye Stevens, Laura MacKay and Evelyn Lowe) who won their Final against Colinton B.C. at Sighthill last Friday. Well done, girls.

 

Finally, congratulations to George Richardson who won in the Final of the Over 55 Gents’ EBA Knockout Singles yesterday (Saturday) at Slateford against an opponent from Parkside B.C.  And yet more congratulations to our Over 55 Gents’ Triples (Les Brown, Brian Sharp and Bernie Callaghan) who beat Summerside B.C. in their Final of the EBA Knockouts also on Saturday at Slateford.  Well done, guys.

 

Overall, a very successful weekend for the Club!!

 

Please note that the draw for this season’s Murdoch Trophy is now on the ‘Mixed’ Noticeboard. This draw involves the finalists of 8 qualifying competitions over the year. Please check the Noticeboard for the closing dates for each round. The date for the first round matches is Friday 4th September.

 

A gentle reminder for both our Senior Gents’ RMBA teams.  With both teams qualifying for the Knockouts semi-finals, please note that these matches (away to Postal B.C. and at home to Brunstane B.C.) will take place at 1.30pm on Monday 7 September.

 

We will be represented in the Senior Gents’ North & West Knockout Finals by our Fours (Tom Wallace, Neil Gowans, Les Brown and David McNiven) who will take on a rink from Queensberry B.C. at Queensberry on Tuesday afternoon at 1.45pm.  All the best, guys. 

 

Our Ladies have their annual Friendly at home to Blackhall B.C. on Tuesday afternoon at 2.00pm. We are sure that everyone involved will have a great time.

 

At the time of writing, we have seven Finals scheduled for this week.

 

On Wednesday 2 September at 2.00pm, the Final of the Ladies’ Nominated Pairs involving Faye Stevens and Michele Koeune against Pat Reid and Marcia Norton will be held.

 

The Final of the Senior Ladies’ Championship between Michele Koeune and Marcia Norton will take place at 3.30pm on Friday 4 September.

 

Then, on Saturday 5 September at 2.00pm, 

 

Ally Gibson and Bernie Callaghan will compete in the President’s Final

Ronnie McCall will be in action against Allan Black in the Vice-President’s Final

Faye Stevens and Clint Cassidy will take on Kath Brown and Billy Samuel in the Birnie Mixed Pairs Final

John Donoghue and Scott Jackson have a match against Alan and Brian Sharp in the Final of the Gents’ Blyth Pairs 

 

Lastly, on Sunday 6 September at 2.00pm, the Ladies’ Two Bowl Final between Ann Barr and Jane Mitchell will take place.

Finally, a wee heads-up for some upcoming events :

1. On Wednesday 9 September, the annual Ladies v Senior Gents for the Carruth Trophy is scheduled at 2.00pm. The teams will be on the respective Noticeboards before the match.

Events Week 19 – 24th August

Dear Members,

 

Please read the attached document which details the bowling events involving our Club during the week beginning Monday 24 August.
 

The Gents’ Championship Final between Stuart Campbell and Frank Ross will take place on Friday 28 August at around 5.30pm.  Please try to get along to the Club to support both players in this very important match.

 

Our Ladies continue their EWBA campaigns this week.  The Pairs (Faye Stevens and Joan Mitchell) take on Colinton B.C. at Whitehouse & Grange and our Triples (Jane Mitchell, Michele Koeune and Chris Bentley) are in action against Tanfield B.C. at Blackhall.  These ties are on Monday at 2.00pm.  If the girls are successful, they will play at Craigentinny at 1.30pm on Wednesday 26 August in the semi-finals.  And, then, hopefully in the Finals at Braid on Saturday 29 August at 1.30pm.  All the best, ladies.  We are hosting three quarter-final ties in these competitions on the green on Monday afternoon at 2.00pm.

 

The Ladies’ Page Two-Bowl Pairs competition will be held on Tuesday 25 August at 1.00pm.  We are sure everyone involved will have a great afternoon.

 

Our representatives in the Senior Gents’ North & West Knockout semi-finals will be in action at 1.45pm on Tuesday 25 August.  Our Pairs (David Venters and Keith Rutherford) will take on Blackhall B.C. at Blackhall and our Fours (Tom Wallace, Neil Gowans, Les Brown and David McNiven) will compete against Dean B.C. at Dean. Stick in, guys. 

 

The Ladies’ Water of Leith Championship Finals are being held at Sighthill B.C. on Friday 28 August at 1.30pm.  We will be represented by our Triples (Faye Stevens, Laura MacKay and Evelyn Lowe) who will take on Colinton B.C.  Good luck, girls.  Please try to get along to Sighthill to support the ladies if you can. 

 

Our representatives in the Senior Gents’ EBA Knockout Singles (George Richardson) and Triples (Les Brown, Brian Sharp and Bernie Callaghan) will now play Parkside B.C. and Summerside B.C. respectively in their finals at Slateford on Saturday 29 August at 10.00am.  All the best, guys. Please try to get along to Slateford to support the players if you can.

 

The annual match involving Corstorphine Rugby Club for the ‘RugBowl’ Trophy will be held on the green on Sunday 30 August at 2.00pm.  We are still looking for members to play in this match.  Please add your names to the list on the ‘Mixed’ Noticeboard if you are available to play.  We are sure that everyone involved will have a great afternoon.

 

Finally, a wee heads-up for some upcoming events :
 

1. Three sessions on the green (Noon, 2.00pm and 4.00pm) have been allocated to Finals on the weekend of 5 and 6 September. If you are involved in Finals this season and can play on these dates/times, please add your match(es) into the Tie Book.
 

2.  Please note that there are now sheets on the ‘Mixed’ Noticeboard for this year’s Sutherland Singles (aka the Mini-Leagues).  Now is the time to arrange to play your matches as soon as possible (and before the end of the season).

 

3. On Wednesday 9 September, the annual Ladies v Senior Gents for the Carruth Trophy is scheduled at 2.00pm. There are lists on both the Ladies’ and Senior Gents’ Noticeboards for those members wanting to play.
 

4. On Friday 11 September, our Senior Gents have their annual Friendly away to Carrickknowe B.C. at 2.00pm.  There is still time to add your name to the list on the Senior Gents’ Noticeboard if you are able to play in this hugely enjoyable afternoon.

Events Week 18 – 17th August

Dear Members,

Please read the attached document which details the bowling events
involving our Club during the week beginning Monday 17 August.

Firstly, huge congratulations to our Ladies’ Triples (Mo Crighton, Pat
Clark and Joan Mitchell) who competed in the National Championships
last week at Ayr, Northfield.  The girls won their first game but
unfortunately lost to Auckinleck B.C. in the second round.  An
excellent performance, ladies;  you did yourselves and the Club proud.

Our Ladies start their campaigns in the EWBA Championship games on
Monday afternoon at 2.00pm. The Pairs (Faye Stevens and Joan Mitchell)
will play Northern B.C. at Goldenacre and the Fours (Ann Barr, Cathy
Souza, Vicky Page and Evelyn Lowe) have a match against Blackhall B.C.
at Coltbridge. If they are successful in these games, then on
Wednesday afternoon at 2.00pm, the Pairs will have another match at
Wardie and the Fours will play at London Road Foundry. At the same
time on Wednesday afternoon, our Triples (Jane Mitchell, Michele
Koeune and Chris Bentley) will take on Maitland B.C. at Brunstane.
Finally, on Wednesday evening at 6.15pm, our Singles (Marcia Norton)
has a match against London Road Foundry B.C. at Tanfield. Good luck,
ladies.  Also on Wednesday evening at 6.15pm, we are hosting three
EWBA Singles ties on the green.

Our representatives in the Over 55 Gents’ Top Ten will take on Pilrig
B.C. at home on Wednesday afternoon at 1.30pm in the first round of
this competition.  Stick in, guys.

We have two representatives in the Ladies’ Water of Leith
Championships Semi-Finals at Bainfield at 1.30pm on Friday 21 August.
Our Pairs (Mo Crighton and Chris Bentley) will take on Colinton B.C.
and our Triples (Faye Stevens, Pat Clark and Evelyn Lowe) have a match
against opponents from Bainfield B.C.  Please try to get along to
Bainfield to support the ladies in these matches.  Good luck, girls.

In the semi-finals of the EBA Senior Gents’ Knockout competitions, we
will be represented by our Singles (George Richardson) who will
compete against Seafield B.C. at Craigentinny and by our Triples (Les
Brown, Brian Sharp and Bernie Callaghan) who will also take on
Seafield B.C. but at Queensberry on Friday afternoon at 1.30pm.  All
the best, guys.

Then, on Sunday 23 August, we have the annual Ladies vs Gents match at
2.00pm. This is always a very competitive and enjoyable afternoon.

Finally, a wee heads-up for some upcoming events :

1. The annual Ladies’ Page Two-Bowl Pairs will be held on Tuesday 25
August starting at 1.00pm. There is still a little time to add your
names to the list on the Ladies’ Noticeboard if you wish to play in
this competition.

2. The annual RugBowl Trophy competition between ourselves and
Corstorphine Rugby Club will be held on the green at 2.00pm on Sunday
30 August. Currently, there are only nine names on the list on the
‘Mixed’ Noticeboard.  Please add your names if you wish to
participate.

3. The annual Ladies’ Friendly at home to Blackhall B.C. will be held
on Tuesday 1 September at 2.00pm. There is a list on the Ladies’
Noticeboard for those who wish to be involved in this match.

4. We have allocated a few sessions on both Saturday 5 September and
Sunday 6 September to play some Competition finals.  If you are
good/lucky enough to be involved in any finals, please consider
playing them on these dates.  It would be a fine spectacle to have a
few finals being played on the green at the same time.  Thanks.

Events Week 16 – 3rd August

Dear Members,

Please read the attached document which details the bowling events involving our Club during the week beginning Monday 3 August.

The final of the Ladies’ Championship between Marcia Norton and Joan Mitchell is scheduled to take place at 2.00pm on Monday 3 August. Please try to get along to the Club to support both players in this very important match. All the best, ladies.

Both semi-finals of the Gents’ Championship will take place on Friday 7 August at 6.00pm. Stuart Campbell will take on Bob Page and Brian Sharp will be in action against Frank Ross. Again, please try to get along to the Club to support all 4 players in these matches.

Due to the inclement weather last Wednesday evening, the EBA League fixtures for the First and Second XVIs were abandoned. These matches have now been rescheduled for Monday with the First XVI taking on Tanfield B.C. at home and the Second XVI in action away to Craigentinny B.C. Both of these games start at 6.30pm. As a result, please note that the Hat Night on Monday evening has been cancelled.

A wee heads-up, the National Championships are being held at Ayr, Northfield the week beginning 8 August. We will be represented in the Ladies’ Triples this year by Mo Crighton, Pat Clark and Joan Mitchell. Their first match will be at 12.30pm on Thursday 13 August against opponents from Scotscraig B.C. from Tayport in Fife. If they are successful in this game, then the girls will have potentially two further matches on Friday at 9.30am and 4.00pm. And, if successful in these, they will be involved in the semi-final on Saturday at 9.00am and (hopefully) the final on Saturday afternoon (time TBC). All the very best, ladies. Please try to get to Ayr to support them if you can.

Our Ladies kick off their Water of Leith Championships campaigns on Wednesday afternoon at 2.00pm. Our Singles (Joan Mitchell) will be in action against Sighthill B.C. at Carrickknowe while our Pairs (Mo Crighton and Chris Bentley) will take on Currie B.C. at Colinton and our Triples (Faye Stevens, Pat Clark and Evelyn Lowe) have a match against Carrickknowe B.C. at Balerno. Good luck, girls. At the same time, we are hosting two ties in this competition on the green.

On Thursday evening, our Ladies’ representatives have games in the semi-finals of the EBA Knockouts competitions. Our Pairs (Cathy Souza and Michele Koeune) have a match against Carrickknowe B.C. at Bainfield and our Triples (Mo Crighton, Pat Clark and Joan Mitchell) will be in action against Maitland B.C. at Dean. Both of these ties start at 6.30pm. Good luck, girls.

Also at the same time on Thursday, we are hosting 5 ties in the Gents’ EBA Knockout competitions on the green.

On Friday afternoon, our representatives in the Senior Gents’ EBA Knockouts continue their campaign. 3 The Ladies have their Clark Fours competition on the green on Sunday 16 August starting at 1.30pm. There is a list on the Ladies’ Noticeboard for those members who wish to be involved in this very enjoyable afternoon.
4 The eagerly-awaited Ladies versus Gents match is scheduled for Sunday 23 August at 2.00pm. There are lists on both the Ladies’ and Gents’ Noticeboards for those members wishing to play.
5 The annual Ladies’ Page Two-Bowl Pairs will be held on Tuesday 25 August starting at 1.00pm. There is a list on the Ladies’ Noticeboard for those ladies who would like to participate in this competition.

The EBA Knockout competitions continue this week with our Ladies’ Pairs (Cathy Souza and Michele Koeune) taking on London Road Foundry B.C. at Summerside and the Triples (Mo Crighton, Pat Clark and Joan Mitchell) in action against Currie B.C. at Liberton.  Good luck, ladies.  Both of these matches are on Thursday evening at 6.30pm.

 

Also on Thursday, our Gents’ teams will compete in their EBA Knockout competitions.  Our Singles (Jim MacKay) will take on Sighthill B.C. at Carrickknowe and our Pairs (Joe Blair and Keith Rutherford) are in action against London Road Foundry B.C. at Wardie.  Our Triples (Ricky Stevens, David Sutherland and Andy Lomax) have a match against Hillside B.C. at Braid and our Fours (Ronnie Clark, Charlie Sweeney, Tony McBride and Billy Samuel) will take on Trinity B.C. at Goldenacre.  All the best, guys.  All of these ties are at 6.30pm.

Our annual Invitation Pairs competition will be held on 2 August (start times to be announced later in the week).  At the time of writing, we have 23 pairs on the list to compete.  There is room for 1 more pair to be added before we carry out the draw on Thursday.  First come, first served!!!

Events week 14 – 20th July

Our Ladies’ Singles (Chris Bentley) has a match against Northern B.C. at London Road while the Pairs (Cathy Souza and Michele Koeune) take on Whitehouse & Grange B.C. at Maitland. Our Triples (Mo Crighton, Pat Clark and Joan Mitchell) will compete against Seafield B.C. at Merchiston and the Fours (Val Mather, Jane Mitchell, Vicky Page and Marcia Norton) have a game against Tanfield B.C. at Northern. All of these ties are at 6.30pm on Thursday 23 July. Good luck, girls. At the same time, we are hosting 4 ties in these competitions on the green.

Also on Thursday evening, our representatives in the Gents’ EBA Knockouts Fours (Ronnie Clark, Charlie Sweeney, Tony McBride and Tom Mitchell) kick off their campaign with a match against Colinton B.C. at Gorgie Mills at 6.30pm. All the best, guys.

Then, on Friday, our Senior Gents’ representatives have EBA Knockout matches. The Singles (George Richardson) will take on Liberton B.C. at Summerside and our Pairs (Frank Ross and Bill Cumming) have a match against Maitland B.C. at Blackhall. Our Triples (Les Brown, David McNiven and Bernie Callaghan) compete against Dean B.C. at Mayfield and the Fours (Bobby Brown, Gordon Munro, Iain Norton and Brian Sharp) have a game against Northern B.C. at Brunstane. Finally, a wee heads-up for some upcoming events in August :

1 The Club has its annual Invitation Pairs competition on Sunday 2 August. There is a list on the ‘Mixed’ Noticeboard for those members (and their partners from other Clubs) who wish to play in this event. Please note that there will be an entry fee of £10 per pair for this competition.
2 Our Senior Gents have their annual Hyland Rigg competition on Friday 7 August starting at 2.00pm. There is still time to add your name to the list on the Senior Gents’ Noticeboard if you wish to participate.
3 The Gents will have their annual Friendly away to Blackhall B.C. on Wednesday 12 August at 6.15pm. There is a list on the Gents’ Noticeboard for those gents wishing to play in this match.
4 The annual Cathy Connet Trophy competition will be held on Saturday 15 August at 2.00pm. There is a list on the ‘Mixed’ Noticeboard for those members who wish to be involved.
5 Our Ladies have their annual Clark Fours competition on the green on Sunday 16 August starting at 1.30pm. There is a list on the Ladies’ Noticeboard if you wish to play in this event.
6 The annual Ladies vs Gents match will be held on Sunday 23 August at 2.00pm. There are lists on both the Ladies’ and Gents’ Noticeboards for those who would like to play in this very enjoyable afternoon.

Events Week 13 – 13th July

Dear Members,
Please read the attached document which details the bowling events involving our Club during the week beginning Monday 13 July.
We have representatives competing in the next round of the Senior Gents’ North & West Knockouts on Tuesday 14 July at 1.45pm. Bernie Callaghan will take on an opponent from Dean B.C. in the Singles at Dean. In the Pairs, David Venters and Keith Rutherford have a match against Peter Anderson and David McGuire on our green. And, finally, our Fours (Tom Wallace, Neil Gowans, Les Brown and Donald MacKay) will compete against Maitland B.C. at Maitland. Good luck, guys.
Our Gents’ Top Ten will take on Whitehouse & Grange B.C. at home on Tuesday 14 July at 6.30pm. All the best, guys. Please try to get along to the Club to support the team in this match.
Our Ladies’ representatives in the Triples (Mo Crighton, Pat Clark and Joan Mitchell) will kick off their EBA Knockout campaign on Thursday evening with a match against Mayfield B.C. at Jessfield at 6.30pm. All the best, ladies.

The annual Centenary Trophy competition will be held on the green at 2.00pm on Saturday 18 July. The draw will be on the ‘Mixed’ Noticeboard towards the end of this week. Please check if you have your name down to play. We are sure everyone involved will have a great afternoon.
Our Strawberry Fayre will take place on the green and in the Clubhouse at 2.00pm on Sunday 19 July. This is an opportunity to bring friends and family along to the Club to have a wee game of bowls and enjoy some strawberries and ice-cream.

Events Week 12 – 6th July

Dear Members,

 

Please read the attached document which details the bowling events involving our Club during the week beginning Monday 6 July.

Our Ladies will take on Blackhall B.C. away in the next round of the EWBA Top Ten on Monday 6 July at 2.00pm. Good luck, girls.

 

The Ladies have their annual Friendly match at home to Kilmarnock B.C. on Tuesday 7 July at 2.00pm. We are sure that everyone involved will have a great afternoon.

 

Our Gents’ Top Ten representatives are in action away to Leith B.C. on Tuesday evening at 6.30pm.  All the best, guys.

The Gents’ EBA Edinburgh Cup match at home to Craigentinny B.C. will take place on Friday 10 July at 6.45pm.  Stick in, guys.  Please try to get along to the green to support the boys in this match.

 

Then, on Sunday 12 July, our Ladies will take on Carrickknowe B.C. in the semi-final of the EBA Edinburgh Cup at 2.00pm at Parkside.  Good luck, girls.  Again, please try to get along to Parkside to support the ladies, if you can.   

 

Also on Sunday 12 July, our representatives in the EBA Mixed Rink competition (Pat Reid, Ronnie McLaren, Ian McLaren and David McGuire) will take on Balerno B.C. at Bainfield at 6.30pm. All the best, guys and gals.  At the same time, we will be hosting two ties in this competition on the green.
