Dear Members,

Please read the attached document which details the bowling events involving our Club during the week beginning Monday 9 June.

On Tuesday evening at 6.45pm at Parkside, our representatives in the Gents’ Bowls Scotland District semi-finals will be in action. Stuart Campbell will take on Carrickknowe B.C. in the Singles while our Pairs (Keith Bennett and John P Simpson) have a match against Slateford B.C. The Fours (Clint Cassidy, Jim Connor, David Sutherland and Brian Sharp) will be competing against a rink from Carrickknowe B.C. All the best, guys. If successful, our teams will play in the District Finals at Currie on Friday evening at 6.30pm. In addition, we are hosting four semi-final ties on the green on Tuesday evening at 6.45pm.

The final of the Ladies’ Bowls Scotland District Junior Singles involving two girls from Sighthill B.C. will be held on the green on Tuesday evening at 6.45pm. Please try to get along to the Club to see two of the best young bowlers in Edinburgh in action.

On Saturday 14 June, the Ladies’ Bowls Scotland District 15 Finals will be held on our green starting at 10.30am. Although we do not have any representatives involved in these matches, please try to get along to the green to see some of the best lady bowlers in Edinburgh in action.

Then, on Sunday 15 June, the Bowls Scotland Mixed Pairs Final is scheduled for 6.30pm at Brunstane. Hopefully, our representatives (Joan Mitchell and Alan Mather Jnr) will be competing in this match – if they are successful in their semi-final match tonight (Sunday). All the best, Joan and Alan.

  1. Finally, a reminder of a couple of upcoming internal events
    We are still looking for 4 names to take part in the Gents’ Friendly away to Carrickknowe B.C. on Saturday 21 June at 2.00pm. This is always a very enjoyable afternoon and we would encourage you to play if you can.
  2. The annual Millar Cup for Mixed Pairs is scheduled for Sunday 29 June at 2.00pm. Please add the names of your Pair to the list on the ‘Mixed’ Noticeboard if you are available to play.

Please read the attached document which details the bowling events involving our Club during the week beginning Monday 2 June.

On Monday afternoon, our representative in the Bowls Scotland Senior Gents’ Singles (George Richardson) will play his quarter-final tie against Balerno B.C. at Slateford at 2.00pm. Good luck, George.

Then, on Tuesday evening, our Gents’ Bowls Scotland representatives continue their quest to qualify for the National Championships in July. Stuart Campbell is in action against Lutton Place B.C. at Gorgie Mills in the Singles while the Pairs (John Matear and John P Simpson) will take on Carrickknowe B.C. ‘B’ also at Gorgie Mills. The Triples (Joe Blair, Bernie Callaghan and David McNiven) have a match against Balerno B.C. at Colinton and the Fours (Clint Cassidy, Jim Connor, David Sutherland and Brian Sharp) are in action against Parkside B.C. at Carrickknowe. All of these ties start at 6.45pm. All the best, guys. Hopefully, all the boys will be involved in the District 15 Finals which will be held at Currie B.C. on Friday 13 June at 6.30pm.

On Thursday evening, our representative in the EBA Gents’ Set Singles (Iain Norton) will take on Northern B.C. at Craigentinny at 6.45pm. Stick in, Iain.

On Friday afternoon, the Senior Gents have their annual Bob Horsham Trophy competition at 2.00pm. There is still time to add your name to the list on the Senior Gents’ Noticeboard if you can play in this competition. We are sure everyone involved will have a great day. Please note that there will not be a Hat Day on Friday afternoon.

On Saturday 7 June, the Ladies’ Bowls Scotland District 15 semi-finals will take place at Colinton. Our Singles (Chris Bentley) will take on Mayfield B.C. at 10.00am and the Fours (Jane Mitchell, Vicky Page, Marcia Norton and Evelyn Lowe) have a match against Colinton B.C at 2.00pm. All the best, ladies.

We are hosting a first round match against Queensberry B.C. in the EBA Top 5 Singles on Sunday afternoon at 2.00pm. Our team is Stuart Campbell, David McNiven, Brian Sharp, John P Simpson and Ricky Stevens. Please try to get along to the green to support them. Good luck, guys.

Our Mixed Pairs representatives (Joan Mitchell & Alan Mather Jnr) will be playing in the semi-finals of the Bowls Scotland District 15 qualifiers on Sunday evening at 6.30pm at Balerno against Parkside B.C. All the best, Joan and Alan.

A couple of reminders for upcoming events.

The Gents’ Friendly away to Carrickknowe B.C. will take place on Saturday 21 June at 2.00pm. We are still looking for 5 names to make up the 6 rinks required for this match. Please add your name to the list on the Gents’ Noticeboard if you can take part in this very enjoyable afternoon.

The annual Millar Cup is scheduled for Sunday 29 June at 2.00pm. This is a Mixed Pairs competition and there is a list on the Mixed Noticeboard for those who wish to participate.

Please read the attached document which details the bowling events involving our Club during the week beginning Monday 26 May.

Firstly, please note the green will be closed all day on Friday 30 May for fertilisation. As a result, there will be no Hat Day on Friday.

On Monday afternoon, our representatives in the Bowls Scotland Senior Gents’ competitions continue their campaigns to qualify for the National Championships in July. One of our Singles players (Jim MacKay) will take on Balerno B.C. while the other (George Richardson) has a match against Beechwood B.C. Our Fours (Ricky Stevens, Jim Connor, David Sutherland and Bernie Callaghan) will compete against Bainfield B.C. All of these matches will take place at Parkside at 2.00pm. All the best, guys.

On Tuesday evening, our Ladies’ EBA team will take on Dean B.C. in the first round of the Edinburgh Cup at Dean at 6.30pm. Good luck, ladies.

Also on Tuesday evening, our Gents’ Bowls Scotland representatives continue their quest to qualify for the National Championships in July. One of our Singles’ representatives (Jim MacKay) will take on Parkside B.C. at Bainfield while the other (Stuart Campbell) is in action against Bainfield B.C. at Braid. Our Pairs (John Matear and John P Simpson) will compete against Slateford B.C. at Mayfield while our Triples (Joe Blair, Bernie Callaghan and David McNiven)) will take on Juniper Green B.C. at Braid. Finally, our Fours (Andy Lomax, Frank Ross, David Sutherland and Brian Sharp) will be in action against Merchiston B.C. at Mayfield. All of these ties start at 6.45pm. All the best, guys.

On Thursday evening at 6.45pm, our representative in the EBA Ladies’ Set Singles competition (Joan Mitchell) will take on Mayfield B.C. at Dean. At the same time, our Gents’ representative (Iain Norton) in the EBA Set Singles has a match against Braid B.C. also at Dean and our Gents’ Aussie Pairs team (Scott Jackson and Keith Bennett) will take on Craigentinny B.C. at London Road Foundry. All the best, guys and gals.

The Ladies’ Bowls Scotland District 15 qualifying matches for our Senior representatives will take place over the weekend of 31 May and 1 June. In the Singles, Chris Bentley will take on Currie B.C. and Joan Mitchell is in action against Slateford B.C. Both of these matches are at 11.00am on Saturday 31 May. If successful, Chris will have another game at 2.00pm on Sunday 1 June while Joan will have another match at 11.00am and, if successful again, will play at 2.00pm on Sunday 1 June. These games are all at Whitehouse & Grange. In the Fours, our representatives (Jane Mitchell, Pat Reid, Marcia Norton and Pat Clark) will take on Balerno B.C. on Saturday 31 May at 10.30am at Sighthill and, if successful, will have another match at 10.30am on Sunday 1 June and, if successful again, will have another game at 2.00pm on the Sunday, both at Sighthill. Good luck, girls.

Hopefully, our Bowls Scotland Mixed Pairs teams will still be involved in their competition on Sunday 1 June. If successful this evening (Sunday), Pat Reid and Bernie Callaghan will be playing at Parkside while Joan Mitchell and Alan Mather Jnr will have a match at Sighthill. Both of these games start at 6.30pm. All the best, guys and gals.

Finally, a few reminders :

Firstly, the list for participants in the annual Bob Horsham Trophy (Friday 6 June) is on the Senior Gents’ Noticeboard. Please add your name if you can take part.

The Ladies’ Bowls Scotland District 15 Finals will take place on the green on Saturday 14 June starting at 10.00am. Please try to get along to the green to support the ladies in their quest to get to Ayr in July for the National Championships.

The annual Gents’ Friendly away to Carrickknowe B.C. is scheduled for 2.00pm on Saturday 21 June. Please add your name to the list on the Gents’ Noticeboard if you can participate in this always very enjoyable afternoon. We are looking for 6 rinks for this match.

The EBA Charity Triples will take place at Willowbrae B.C. on Saturday 28 June with a start time of 9.45am. We are sending a team of Les Brown, Billy Samuel and Bernie Callaghan to play in this competition. All the best, guys.

Finally, the annual Millar Cup competition will be held at 2.00pm on Sunday 29 June. There is a list on the ‘Mixed’ Noticeboard for those wishing to enter this Mixed Pairs competition. Please add the names of your Pair on the list if you want to take part.

Our Bowls Scotland Seniors’ representatives in the Singles (Jim MacKay and George Richardson) will both be in action on Monday afternoon with Jim taking on Colinton B.C. at Coltbridge and George against Beechwood B.C. at Currie. In addition, our Bowls Scotland Senior Fours representatives will begin their campaign on Monday afternoon. Bobby Brown, Bill Cumming, Clint Cassidy and David McNiven have a match against Ardmillan B.C. at Balerno while Ricky Stevens, Jim Connor, David Sutherland and Bernie Callaghan will take on Juniper Green B.C. at Sighthill. All of these games start at 2.00pm. All the best, guys. At the same time, we have 3 Bowls Scotland Senior Singles and Fours ties on our green.

Our Gents’ Bowls Scotland representatives in the District 15 competitions have games on Tuesday evening at 6.45pm. One of our Singles representatives (Jim MacKay) has a match against Coltbridge B.C. at Balerno. At the same time, one of our Pairs representatives (Ricky Stevens and George Richardson) will play Craigmillar Park B.C. at Lutton Place while the other (John Matear and John P Simpson) compete against Currie B.C. at Coltbridge. Good luck, guys.

Then, on Thursday evening at 6.45pm, our representative in the EBA Ladies’ Aussie Pairs competition (Ronnie McLaren and Pat Clark) will take on Mayfield B.C. at Blackhall. At the same time, our Gents’ representative in the EBA Set Singles (Iain Norton) is in action against Merchiston B.C. at Leith and our representatives in the EBA Aussie Pairs (Keith Bennett and Scott Jackson) have a match against Maitland B.C. at Liberton. Stick in, guys and gals. We are also hosting 5 ties in the various EBA competitions on Thursday evening.

One of our representatives in the Bowls Scotland Mixed Pairs (Pat Reid and Bernie Callaghan) will be in action on Sunday 25 May with a match at Carrickknowe against Sighthill B.C. at 6.30pm. At the same time, hopefully our other team (Joan Mitchell and Alan Mather Jnr) will also compete at Mayfield. All the best, gals and guys.

Finally, a wee ‘heads-up’ on some upcoming events :

  1. The Senior Gents have their annual Bob Horsham Trophy game at 2.00pm on Friday 6 June. There is a list on the Seniors’ Notice-board for those wishing to be involved.
  2. Please note that the lists for the Senior Gents’ Nominated Pairs and Drawn Triples will be removed from the Noticeboard on Monday 19 May. There is still time to add your names to the lists if you want to participate. We are looking for one more senior gent to make up the numbers for the Triples.
  3. We will take on Queensberry B.C, at home on Sunday 8 June at 2.00pm in the first round of the EBA Gents’ Top Five Singles. The team is Stuart Campbell, Jim MacKay, Brian Sharp, John P Simpson and Ricky Stevens. Please try to get along to the green to support the guys in this match.
  4. On Saturday 14 June, we will be hosting the Finals of the Ladies’ Bowls Scotland District 15 competitions starting at 10.00am. Please try to get along to the Club to support the Ladies in their quest to get to the National Championships at Ayr, Northfield in July.
  5. The annual Gents’ Friendly against Carrickknowe B.C. will be held away on Saturday 21 June starting at 2.00pm. There is a list on the Gents’ Noticeboard for those members who wish to play in this very enjoyable day. We are looking for 6 rinks for this match.

Please read the attached document which details the bowling events involving our Club during the week beginning Monday 12 May.

Our Ladies begin their EBA League campaign on Monday evening with an away match at Carrickknowe B.C. at 6.30pm. All the best, girls.

Our Ladies’ Pairs (Faye Stevens and Joan Mitchell) and Triples (Mo Crighton, Pat Reid and Michelle Keoune) kick off their Bowls Scotland campaigns next weekend. On Saturday 17 May, Faye and Joan have a match against Currie B.C. at 2.00pm at Juniper Green and, if successful, they will have another game at Juniper on Sunday at 10.30am. The Triples will take on Craigmillar Park B.C. at Currie at 11.00am on Saturday 17 May and, if successful, will have another match at Currie on the Sunday at 11.00am. Good luck, ladies.

On Sunday 18 May, one of our Bowls Scotland Mixed Pairs teams (Joan Mitchell and Alan Mather Jnr) will start their journey with a match against Merchiston B.C. at Juniper Green at 6.30pm. All the best, Joan and Alan.

Please note that the closing date for entry into this season’s Pairs (Blyth, Club and Birnie), Davis Triples and Walker Fours competitions is Monday 12 May. So, there is still time to add your names to the lists on the Mixed and Gents’ Noticeboards. We would also encourage those members who have their names on the ‘Help Sheets’ on the Gents’ and Mixed Noticeboards to approach others on the Sheets to form teams for these competitions.

Finally, the first Gents’ Friendly of the season against Gala Abbotsford B.C. is scheduled for Saturday 17 May at 2.00pm at home. We are sure that everyone involved will have a wonderful afternoon.

Our North & West Senior Gents kick off their League campaigns on Tuesday afternoon with our ‘A’ team away to Willowbrae B.C. and our ‘B’ team at home to Dean B.C. at 1.45pm. All the best, guys.

The first Gents’ EBA league matches will take place on Wednesday 7 May at 6.30pm with the First XVI away to Wardie B.C. while our Second XVI take on Carrickknowe B.C. at home and the Third Team play Summerside B.C. also at home. Stick in, boys.

Our Ladies’ Singles representative (Chris Bentley) and Fours (Jane Mitchell, Vicky Page, Marcia Norton and Evelyn Lowe) all kick off their Bowls Scotland campaigns next weekend. On Saturday 10 May, Chris has a match against Beechwood B.C. ‘A’ at 2.00pm at Braid and, if successful, she will have another game at Braid on Sunday at 11.00am. Our Fours will compete against Sighthill B.C. at 11.00am on Sunday 11 May at Liberton. Good luck, ladies.

Dear Members,

Please read the attached document which details the bowling events involving our Club during the week beginning Monday 28 April.

On Monday afternoon, our Ladies team have their first Heather League match against Coltbridge B.C. with one rink at home and one away. Good luck, girls.

Then, on Wednesday 30 April, our Gents’ First and Second XVIs will be competing in the EBA John Sharp Trophy. We will have two First XVI rinks and two Second XVI rinks at home and two each away from home. Please see the list on the Gents’ Noticeboard with the teams and the venues for each of our rinks. Stick in, guys.

The RMBA League matches kick off on Thursday afternoon. Our ‘A’ team are at home to Merchiston B.C. while the ‘B’ team are away to Leith B.C. All the best, guys.

On Saturday (3 May), we have this year’s Try Bowls session. It starts at Noon and is an opportunity for family and friends to come along to the Club and have a wee game of bowls. It is aimed at those who have not played the game before but is open to all. Please invite your chums to have a go – who knows, we may get additional members out of it!!

The Gents will have their annual Bowling Day at 2.00pm on Sunday 4 May. There is a list on the Gents’ Notice-board for those wishing to play. Please add your name to this list as this will help with the organisation of both the bowling and the catering. Please note that dress for this event will be ‘smart, casual’.

Finally, a couple of reminders. The lists for entry to the Blyth Pairs, Club Pairs, Birnie Pairs, Davis Triples and Walker Fours are currently on the Notice-boards and need to be completed by Monday 12 May. The first Gents’ Friendly of the season at home to Gala Abbotsford B.C. will be held at 2.00pm on Saturday 17 May. The list for players for this match is on the Notice-board in the Clubhouse and we are looking for 5 triples. Please add your name to the list if you are available.
