Dear Members,

Please read the attached document which details the bowling events involving our Club during the week beginning Monday 1 June.

On Monday afternoon, our representative in the Bowls Scotland Senior Gents’ Singles (George Richardson) will play his quarter-final tie against Colinton B.C. at Parkside at 2.00pm. Good luck, George. At the same time, we will be hosting 4 Bowls Scotland Senior Gents’ ties on our green.

The first round of the North & West Knockouts will take place on Tuesday afternoon at 1.45pm. We have two teams (‘A’ and ‘B’) involved in this competition. Our Singles ‘A’ (Bernie Callaghan) will take on Queensberry B.C. away while ‘B’ (Alex Johnston) will be in action against Goldenacre B.C. also away. Our Triples ‘A’ (Alan Barclay, Willie Stoddart and Iain Norton) will be at home to Queensberry B.C. and Triples ‘B’ (David Morrison, Kenny Orr and Brian Howe) will take on Tanfield B.C. also at home. Our Fours ‘A’ (Tom Wallace, Neil Gowans, Les Brown and Donald MacKay) will be in action at Goldenacre B.C. while our Fours ‘B’ (Jimmy Riddock, Alan Mather Snr, Ronnie McCall and Sandy Powell) will be at home to Tanfield B.C. All the best, guys.

Then, on Tuesday evening, Stuart Campbell will continue his quest to qualify for the National Championships at Ayr in August with a match against Ardmillan B.C. at Currie in the Singles at 6.45pm. All the best, Stuart. We are hosting three Ladies’ Bowls Scotland Under 25 games on the green on Tuesday evening also at 6.45pm. Please try to get along to the Club to see some of the best young lady bowlers in Edinburgh in action, if you can.

On Thursday evening, our representatives in the EBA Ladies’ Aussie Pairs (Mo Crighton and Marcia Norton) will take on Blackhall B.C. at Tanfield at 6.45pm. Stick in, girls.

Our Ladies will take on Liberton B.C. away in the first round of the EBA Edinburgh Cup on Friday at 6.30pm. Good luck, ladies.

On Saturday 6 June, the Ladies’ Bowls Scotland District 15 semi-finals will take place at Sighthill. Our Senior Singles (Chris Bentley) will take on Carrickknowe B.C. at 2.00pm and the Triples (Mo Crighton, Pat Clark and Joan Mitchell) have a match against Craigmillar Park B.C at 10.30am. All the best, ladies.

We are playing a first round match away to Goldenacre B.C. in the EBA Top 5 Singles on Sunday evening at 6.45pm. Our team is Joe Blair, Stuart Campbell, Jim MacKay, George Richardson and Ricky Stevens. Please try to get along to the green to support them. Good luck, guys.

A couple of reminders for upcoming events.

On Saturday 13th June we are having a disco from 7pm. Several members turn 60 this year and it seemed a good excuse for a party. Please come along: everyone welcome. This is followed by the screening of some World Cup games with Scotland’s first game starting at 2am. The licence has been extended, so why not lend your voice in support of the national team in the club?

Our Senior Gents have their annual Bob Horsham Trophy competition on Friday 12 June starting at 2.00pm. There is still a little time to add your names to the list on the Senior Gents’ Noticeboard if you want to take part in this very enjoyable afternoon.

The Ladies’ Page Two-Bowl Pairs is scheduled to take place on the green on Friday 19 June starting at 1.00pm. This is being drawn on Tuesday so add your name quickly if you wish to play.

The Gents’ Friendly at home to Carrickknowe B.C. will take place on Saturday 20 June at 2.00pm. We are still looking for 2 names to make up the 6 rinks required for this match. Come on, guys, your Club needs you!! Please add your name to the list on the Gents’ Noticeboard if you can take part in this very enjoyable afternoon.

The annual Millar Cup is scheduled for Sunday 28 June at 2.00pm. This is a Mixed Pairs competition and there is a list on the Mixed Noticeboard for those who wish to participate.
