Dear Members,

Please read the attached document which details the bowling events involving our Club during the week beginning Monday 3 June

On Saturday 8 June, we will be hosting the Ladies Bowls Scotland District Finals on the green starting at 10.00am. Unfortunately, we do not have any representatives in these Finals this year but please try to get along to the Club to support the ladies hoping to get to the National Finals in Ayr in July.

On Monday afternoon, our representative in the Bowls Scotland Senior Gents’ Singles (George Richardson) will play his semi-final tie against Slateford B.C. at Bainfield at 2.00pm. All the best, George.

On Monday evening, our EBA First XVI have a rearranged League match at home to Goldenacre B.C. at 6.45pm. As a result, there will be no Hat Night on Monday evening.

On Tuesday afternoon, please note that the Hat Day has been cancelled as a mark of respect as Stewart Mason’s funeral at Warriston at 11.00 am and the wake in the Clubhouse thereafter will take place that day.

In addition, on Tuesday, our Ladies’ Fours (Faye Stevens, Ronnie McLaren, Gladys Christie and Pat Clark) have an East of Scotland District semi-final tie against Currie B.C. at Whitehouse & Grange at 2.00pm. Good luck, ladies.

Then, on Tuesday evening, our Gents’ Bowls Scotland representatives in the Singles continue their quest to qualify for the National Championships in July. Stuart Campbell is in action against Carrickknowe B.C. ‘A’ while Andy Lomax will take on Carrickknowe B.C. ‘B’. Both of these ties are at Slateford and start at 6.45pm. All the best, guys. Hopefully, both Stuart and Andy will be involved in the District 15 Finals which will be held at Bainfield B.C. on Friday 7 June at 6.30pm.

On Wednesday afternoon at 2.00pm, the Final of the Ladies’ Bowls Scotland District 15 Junior Singles between Sighthill B.C. and Colinton B.C. will take place on the green. Try to get along to the Club to see two of the best young bowlers in Edinburgh in action.

On Thursday afternoon, our Ladies’ Triples (Jane Mitchell, Pat Reid and Joan Mitchell) have an East of Scotland District semi-final tie against Bainfield B.C. at Currie at 2.00pm. Good luck, girls. At the same time, we are hosting two East of Scotland ties on the green.

On Thursday evening, our representatives in the EBA Gents’ Australian Pairs (Bernie Callaghan and Stuart Campbell) will take on Queensberry B.C. at West End at 6.45pm. All the best, guys.

On Friday afternoon, the Senior Gents have their annual Bob Horsham Trophy competition at 2.00pm. We are sure everyone involved will have a great day. Please note that there will not be a Hat Day on Friday afternoon.

On Saturday 8 June, we will be represented by Les Brown, Billy Samuel and Bernie Callaghan in the annual EBA Charity Triples at Willowbrae starting at 9.30am. Enjoy the day, guys.

A couple of reminders for upcoming events.

Firstly, the Ladies’ Captain’s Charity Pairs will take place on Saturday 15 June on the green. There is a list on the Ladies’ Noticeboard for those who wish to participate.

Secondly, there is a list on the Senior Ladies’ Noticeboard for those ladies who wish to enter this year’s Singles competition. Please add your name to the list if you wish to participate by 18 June.

Thirdly, the Millar Cup is scheduled for Sunday 30 June at 2.00pm. This is a Mixed Pairs competition and there is a list on the Mixed Noticeboard for those who wish to take part.

Finally, the annual Gents’ Friendly against Carrickknowe B.C. will be held at home on Saturday 13 July at 2.00pm (please note change of date from the Fixture Booklet). There is a list on the Gents’ Noticeboard in the Clubhouse. Please add your name if you are available to play.

Please read the attached document which details the bowling events involving our Club during the week beginning Monday 27 May.

On Monday afternoon, our remaining representative in the Bowls Scotland Senior Gents’ Singles (George Richardson) will take on Mayfield B.C. at Currie at 2.00pm. All the best, George.

On Monday evening, our Ladies’ EBA team will take on Dudley B.C. in the first round of the Edinburgh Cup at Dudley at 6.45pm. Good luck, ladies. At the same time, our Gents’ First XVI will have a match away to Leith B.C. , our Second XVI play Queensberry B.C. at home and our Gents’ Third Team will be at Merchiston B.C. in rearranged EBA league fixtures. Stick in, guys. Please note that the Hat Night has been cancelled as we have a rearranged League match on the green.

On Tuesday evening, our Gents’ Bowls Scotland representatives continue their quest to qualify for the National Championships in July. Then, on Thursday afternoon, our Ladies’ Triples (Jane Mitchell, Pat Reid and Joan Mitchell) have a rearranged East of Scotland tie against Beechwood B.C. at Bainfield at 2.00pm. Good luck, girls.

On Thursday evening at 6.45pm, our representative in the EBA Ladies’ Set Singles competition (Faye Stevens) will take on Carrickknowe B.C. at Bainfield. At the same time, our Gents’ representatives (David Sutherland and Bernie Callaghan) in the EBA Aussie Pairs have a match against Sighthill B.C. at Willowbrae and our Mixed Rink (Laura MacKay, Ronnie McLaren, Dougie Wilson and Tom Mitchell) will take on Hillside B.C. at Tanfield. All the best, guys and gals. We are also hosting 5 ties in the various EBA competitions on Thursday evening.

The Ladies’ Bowls Scotland District 15 semi-finals will take place at Colinton on Saturday 1 June starting at 10.00am. Our representative in the Senior Ladies’ Singles (Joan Mitchell) will be playing Bainfield B.C. in the quarter-final on Friday 31 May at Liberton at 2.00pm. If successful, Joan will play in the semi-final at Colinton on the Saturday at 10.00am. All the best, Joan. In addition, our Senior Ladies’ Fours (Pat Reid, Kath Brown, Gladys Christie and Chris Bentley) will take on Bainfield B.C in the semi-final at Colinton on Saturday 1 June at 10.00am. Good luck, girls.

Finally, a couple of reminders :

Please read the attached document which details the bowling events involving our Club during the week beginning Monday 20 May.

Our Bowls Scotland Seniors’ representatives in the Singles (Clint Cassidy and George Richardson) will both be in action on Monday afternoon at Juniper Green against Carrickknowe B.C. and at Slateford against Beechwood B.C. respectively. All the best, guys. In addition, our remaining Bowls Scotland Senior Fours representatives will continue their campaign on Monday afternoon. Jim MacKay, Les Brown, Bill Cumming and Scott Jackson have a match against Slateford B.C. at Mayfield. Good luck, boys. All of these games start at 2.00pm.

Our Ladies continue their East of Scotland campaigns next week as well. Our Singles (Cathy Souza) will take on Currie B.C. at Sighthill and the Fours (Faye Stevens, Ronnie McLaren, Gladys Christie and Pat Clark) have a match against Currie B.C. at Braid on Tuesday afternoon. Then, on Thursday afternoon, our Triples (Jane Mitchell, Pat Reid and Joan Mitchell) will take on Beechwood B.C. at Bainfield. All of these games start at 2.00pm. Stick in, girls.

We have 4 Ladies’ external ties on the green on Tuesday 21 May. In the afternoon at 2.00pm, we have an East of Scotland Fours match while, at 6.30pm, we have an East of Scotland Singles game and two Bowls Scotland Junior Singles matches. Please try to get along to the Club to see some very good Lady bowlers in action.

Our Gents’ Bowls Scotland representatives in the District 15 competitions have games on Tuesday evening at 6.45pm. One of our Singles representatives (Stuart Campbell) has a match against Bainfield B.C. at Whitehouse & Grange while the other (Andy Lomax) will take on Braid B.C. at Colinton. At the same time, our Pairs (Bob Page and David McNiven) compete against Currie B.C. at Braid. Our Triples (John Cowe, David McGuire and Bernie Callaghan) have a match against Balerno B.C. at Juniper Green. Finally, our Fours (Ronnie McCall, John Greig, John Matear and Keith Bennett) will take on Parkside B.C. at Whitehouse & Grange. All the best, guys.

Then, on Thursday evening at 6.45pm, our representative in the EBA Ladies’ Set Singles competition (Faye Stevens) will take on Carrickknowe B.C. at Bainfield. At the same time, our Gents’ representatives (David Sutherland and Bernie Callaghan) in the EBA Aussie Pairs have a match against Sighthill B.C. at Willowbrae and our Mixed Rink (Laura MacKay, Ronnie McLaren, Dougie Wilson and Tom Mitchell) will take on Hillside B.C. at Craigentinny. Good luck, guys and gals. We are also hosting 6 ties in the various EBA competitions on Thursday evening.

Next weekend, our Senior Ladies’ teams kick off their Bowls Scotland campaigns. One of our representatives in the Singles (Joan Mitchell) will take on Beechwood B.C. at Liberton on Saturday 25 May at 11.00am and, if successful, will have another match at Liberton on the Sunday at 11.00am. The other Singles representative (Faye Stevens) has a game against Bainfield B.C. at Liberton on Saturday 25 May at 2.00pm and, if successful, will have another match on the Sunday at Liberton at 11.00am. Our Senior Fours ‘A’ (Pat Reid, Kath Brown, Gladys Christie and Chris Bentley) will take on Parkside B.C. at Sighthill at 2.00pm on Saturday 25 May and, if successful, will have another match at Sighthill on the Sunday at 2.00pm. Our Senior Fours ‘B’ (Jean Meiklejohn, Ronnie McLaren, TBC and Pat Clark) have a game against Currie B.C. at Sighthill at 2.00pm on Saturday 25 May and, if successful, will have another game at Sighthill on the Sunday at 2.00pm. All the best, girls.

Hopefully, our remaining Bowls Scotland Mixed Pairs representatives (Pat Reid and David McGuire) will still be in action in the next round of their competition on Sunday 26 May with a match at Juniper Green at 6.00pm. All the best, Pat and David.

Finally, a wee ‘heads-up’ on some upcoming competitions :

  1. The Senior Gents have their annual Bob Horsham Trophy game at 2.00pm on Friday 7 June. There is a list on the Seniors’ Notice-board for those wishing to be involved.
  1. We will be sending a team (Les Brown, Billy Samuel and Bernie Callaghan) to the annual EBA Charity Triples competition to be held at Willowbrae B.C. on Saturday 8 June starting at 9.30am. All the best, guys.
  1. Also on Saturday 8 June, we will be hosting the Finals of the Ladies’ Bowls Scotland District 15 competitions starting at 10.00am. Please try to get along to the Club to support the Ladies in their quest to get to the National Championships at Ayr, Northfield in July.
  1. The annual Ladies’ Captain’s Charity Pairs is scheduled for Saturday 15 June on the green. There is a list on the Ladies’ Noticeboard for those ladies who wish to participate. Each pair will consist of a Corstorphine B.C. lady and an invited guest from outwith the Club. This is always a great day and helps raise money for this year’s chosen charity (Chest, Heart and Stroke, Scotland).

Please read the attached document which details the bowling events involving our Club during the week beginning Monday 13 May.

Our Ladies have their first Heather League match against Carrickknowe B.C. with one rink at home and one away on Monday at 2.00pm. Good luck, ladies.

Our Senior Gents begin their Bowls Scotland campaigns also on Monday afternoon. One of our Singles representatives (David Sutherland) has a match against Parkside B.C. at Balerno.

Our Fours ‘A’ (Ricky Stevens, Jim Connor, Tom Mitchell and Bernie Callaghan) take on Bainfield B.C. at Carrickknowe while the Fours ‘B’ (Jim MacKay, Les Brown, Bill Cumming and Scott Jackson) will compete against Slateford B.C. at Balerno. These games start at 2.00pm. All the best, guys. In addition, we are hosting a Singles and 2 Fours in this competition on the green on Monday afternoon.

Then, on Tuesday 14 May, some of our Gents’ representatives kick off their Bowls Scotland journeys with Stuart Campbell taking on Beechwood B.C. in the Singles at Coltbridge. Our Pairs ‘A’ (John P Simpson and Scott Jackson) will have a match against Parkside B.C. at Liberton while the Pairs ‘B’ (Bob Page and David McNiven) compete against Bainfield B.C. at Lutton Place. All of these games start at 6.45pm. Stick in, guys.

On Thursday 16 May, our remaining representatives in the Gents’ EBA ‘Spring Knockout’ competitions, Dougie Wilson and Bernie Callaghan, will take on Brunstane B.C. in the Australian Pairs at 6.45pm at Carrickknowe. All the best, guys.

Also, on Thursday, our Mixed Rink (Laura MacKay, Ronnie McLaren, Tom Mitchell and David Sutherland) have a game in their EBA competition against Whitehouse & Grange B.C. at Leith at 6.45pm. Good luck, guys and gals.

Our Ladies’ Pairs (Jean Meiklejohn and Chris Bentley) and Triples (Pat Reid, Laura MacKay and Pat Clark) kick off their Bowls Scotland campaigns next weekend. On Saturday 18 May, Jean and Chris have a match against Liberton B.C. at 10.00am at Braid and, if successful, they will have another game at Braid on Sunday at 10.00am. The Triples will take on Whitehouse & Grange B.C. at Balerno at 2.00pm on Saturday 18 May and, if successful, will have another match at Balerno on the Sunday at 10.00am. Good luck, ladies.

On Sunday 19 May, hopefully our Bowls Scotland Mixed Pairs teams will still be involved in this competition. Pat Reid and David McGuire will have a match at Carrickknowe while Jane Mitchell and Willie Stoddart will play at Whitehouse and Grange. Both of these matches start at 6.00pm. All the best, guys and gals.

Please note that the closing date for entry into this season’s Pairs (Blyth, Club and Birnie), Davis Triples and Walker Fours competitions is Monday 13 May. So, there is still time to add your names to the lists on the Mixed and Gents’ Noticeboards. We would also encourage those members who have their names on the ‘Help Sheet’ on the Gents’ Noticeboard to approach others on the Sheet to form teams for these competitions.

Finally, the first Gents’ Friendly of the season against Gala Abbotsford B.C. is scheduled for Saturday 18 May at 2.00pm at Gala. There is still time to add your name to the list on the Noticeboard if you wish to play. We are still looking for 2 players. We are sure that everyone involved will have a wonderful afternoon.

Our EBA Ladies’ team have their first League match on Monday at Colinton at 6.30pm. All the best, girls.

On Tuesday afternoon, the Ladies kick off their East of Scotland campaign with the Fours (Faye Stevens, Ronnie McLaren, Gladys Christie and Pat Clark) taking on Carrickknowe B.C. at Colinton at 2.00pm. Good luck. ladies.

Then, on Thursday afternoon, the Ladies’ East of Scotland Pairs (Jean Meiklejohn and Chris Bentley) and the Triples (Jane Mitchell, Pat Reid and Joan Mitchell) have matches against Braid B.C. and Colinton B.C. respectively at Sighthill at 2.00pm. All the best, girls.

On Thursday evening, the EBA Set Singles and Aussie Pairs competitions begin with our Gents’ Singles ‘A’ (Iain Norton) taking on Sighthill B.C. at Craigentinny and ‘B’ (Ricky Stevens) against Parkside B.C. at Portobello. The Gents’ Pairs ‘A’ (Joe Blair and Keith Bennett) have a match against Maitland B.C. at Slateford. All of these games start at 6.45pm. Stick in, guys. In addition, we have two ties (a Singles and a Pairs) on our green at the same time.

Our Ladies’ Singles representatives (Joan Mitchell and Faye Stevens) and Fours (Ronnie McLaren, Kath Brown, Gladys Christie and Vicky Page) all kick off their Bowls Scotland campaigns next weekend. On Saturday 11 May, Joan has a match against Bainfield B.C. ‘A’ at 10.00am while Faye takes on Bainfield B.C. ‘B’ at 2.00pm both at Parkside and, if successful, they will have another game at Parkside on Sunday at 10.00am. Our Fours will compete against Mayfield B.C. at 11.00am on Sunday 12 May at Currie. Good luck, ladies.

Also on Sunday 12 May, our Mixed Pairs begin their Bowls Scotland journeys with Pat Reid and David McGuire taking on Coltbridge B.C. at Gorgie Mills and Jane Mitchell and Willie Stoddart up against Colinton B.C. at Currie. Dear Members,

Please read the attached document which details the bowling events involving our Club during the week beginning Monday 29 April.

On Tuesday afternoon, our Senior Gents’ North & West teams have their first League matches on Tuesday afternoon with the ‘A’ team away to Tanfield B.C. ‘B’ and the ‘B’ team at home to Goldenacre B.C. Good luck, guys.

The first Gents’ Edinburgh Bowling Association league matches are scheduled for Wednesday (1 May) evening with the First XVI away to Summerside B.C. while the Second XVI are at home to Summerside B.C. The Third Team have a ‘Free Week’. All the best, guys.

The RMBA League matches kick off on Thursday afternoon. Our ‘A’ team are at home to Mayfield B.C. while the ‘B’ team are away to Liberton B.C. Good luck, guys.

On Sunday (5 May), we have this year’s Try Bowls session. It starts at Noon and is an opportunity for family and friends to come along to the Club and have a wee game of bowls. It is aimed at those who have not played the game before but is open to all. Please invite your chums to have a go – who knows, we may get additional members out of it!!

Finally, a couple of reminders. The lists for entry to the Blyth Pairs, Club Pairs, Birnie Pairs, Davis Triples and Walker Fours are currently on the Notice-boards and need to be completed by Monday 13 May. The first Gents’ Friendly of the season away to Gala Abbotsford B.C. will be held at 2.00pm on Saturday 18 May. The list for players for this match is on the Notice-board in the Clubhouse and we are looking for 4 rinks. Please add your name to the list if you are available.
