Events Week 17 – 10th August
Dear Members,Please read the attached document which details the bowling events involving our Club during the week beginning Monday 10 August.Firstly, warm congratulations to Marcia Norton who won this year’s Ladies’ Championship last Monday beating Joan Mitchell in an enthralling game. Well done, Marcia, and commiserations, Joan.Secondly, congratulations to Stuart Campbell and Frank Ross who won their Gents’ Championship semi-finals on Friday evening beating Bob Page and Brian Sharp respectively in very good matches. Well done, Stuart and Frank and hard lines, Bob and Brian. The Final is scheduled to take place around 5.30pm on Friday 28 August. Please try to get along to the Club to support both players in this very important match.Thirdly, belated congratulations to our Retired Men’s Bowling Association (RMBA) ‘A’ team who won Division 1 of their League with a convincing win over Hillside B.C. ‘A’ on the afternoon of Thursday 30 July. Well done, guys.Finally, the National Championships are being held at Ayr, Northfield this week. We will be represented in the Ladies’ Triples this year by Mo Crighton, Pat Clark and Joan Mitchell. Their first match will be at 12.30pm on Thursday 13 August against opponents from Scotscraig B.C. from Tayport in Fife. If they are successful in this game, then the girls will have potentially two further matches on Friday at 9.30am and 4.00pm. And, if successful in these, they will be involved in the semi-final on Saturday at 9.00am and (hopefully) the final on Saturday afternoon (time TBC). All the very best, ladies. Please try to get to Ayr to support them if you can.Please note that the Hat Night will start at 6.30pm on Monday 10 August.Our gents have their annual Friendly away to Blackhall B.C. on Wednesday 12 August at 6.15pm. We are sure everyone involved will have a great evening.Then, on Thursday 13 August, we have two rinks competing in the RMBA President’s Cup at Hillside B.C. starting at 11.00am. All the best, guys.On Saturday 15 August, we have the annual competition for the Cathy Connet Trophy at 2.00pm on the green. There is still a little time to add your name to the list on the ‘Mixed’ Noticeboard if you wish to participate in this very enjoyable afternoon.The annual Ladies’ Clark Fours will be held on Sunday 16 August at 1.30pm for a 2.00pm start. We are sure that everyone involved will have a great afternoon.
Finally, a wee heads-up for some upcoming events :1. The eagerly-awaited Ladies versus Gents match is scheduled for Sunday 23 August at 2.00pm. There are lists on both the Ladies’ and Gents’ Noticeboards for those members wishing to play.2. The annual Ladies’ Page Two-Bowl Pairs will be held on Tuesday 25 August starting at 1.00pm. There is a list on the Ladies’ Noticeboard for those ladies who would like to participate in this competition.3. The annual RugBowl Trophy competition between ourselves and Corstorphine Rugby Club will be held on the green at 2.00pm on Sunday 30 August. Please add your name to the list on the ‘Mixed’ Noticeboard if you wish to participate.5. Our Ladies have their annual Friendly at home to Blackhall B.C. on Tuesday 1 September at 2.00pm. There is a list on the Ladies’ Noticeboard for those ladies who wish to play in this match.6. We have allocated a few sessions on both Saturday 5 September and Sunday 6 September to play some Competition finals. If you are good/lucky enough to be involved in any finals, please consider playing them on these dates. It would be a fine spectacle to have a few finals being played on the green at the same time. Thanks.7. On Wednesday 9 September, the annual Ladies v Senior Gents for the Carruth Trophy is scheduled at 2.00pm. There are lists on both the Ladies’ and Senior Gents’ Noticeboards for those members wanting to play.8. On Friday 11 September, our Senior Gents have their annual Friendly away to Carrick Knowe B.C. There is a list on the Seniors’ Noticeboard if you are able to play in this hugely enjoyable afternoon.
