Events Week 19 – 26th August
Dear Members,
Please read the attached document which details the bowling events involving our Club during the week beginning Monday 26 August.
Firstly, huge congratulations to Jim MacKay who won the Gents’ Championship last Friday evening in a fine match against Brian Sharp. The game was a real credit to both players. Well done, Jim and hard lines, Brian.
Commiserations to our Ladies’ Water of Leith Triples (Pat Reid, Laura MacKay and Evelyn Lowe) who unfortunately lost the Final of their competition against Colinton B.C. last Friday afternoon at home. Hard lines, girls. But a great achievement in getting there.
The final of the Gents’ Walker Fours involving Andy Lomax, Frank Ross, David Sutherland and Brian Sharp against Ricky Stevens, Jim MacKay, George Richardson and John P Simpson will take place at 5.30pm on Monday 26 August. Good luck to both teams.
The final of the Senior Ladies’ Championship between Chris Bentley and Joan Mitchell will be held at 4.00pm on Tuesday 27 August. All the best, girls.
The final of the Senior Gents’ Triples with Kenny Orr, Tom Wallace and Frank Ross taking on Angus McGarry, Ally Gibson and Ricky Stevens will take place at 2.00pm on Friday 30 August. Stick in, guys.
Please try to get along to the Club to support the players in these matches if you can.
Our Ladies continue their EWBA campaigns this week with the Triples (Vicky Page, Pat Clark and Joan Mitchell) taking on London Road Foundry B.C. at Mayfield and the Fours (Jane Mitchell, Pat Reid, Marcia Norton and Evelyn Lowe) in action against Bainfield B.C. at Brunstane. Both of these ties are on Monday at 2.00pm. If the girls are successful, they will all play at Sighthill at 1.30pm on Wednesday 28 August in the semi-finals. And, then, hopefully in the Finals at Carrickknowe on Saturday 31 August at 1.30pm. All the best, ladies.
We are hosting the EWBA semi-finals on Wednesday 28 August with the Pairs, Triples and Fours at 1.30pm and both Singles matches at 6.30pm. Please try to get along to the green to see some very good lady bowlers in action.
Our Senior Gents are involved in the first round of the Edinburgh Top Ten competition when they take on Pilrig B.C. at home on Monday 26 August at 1.30pm. Stick in, guys.
The Gents’ annual Friendly away to Blackhall B.C. will be held at 6.15pm on Tuesday 27 August. We are sure all involved will have a great evening.
The Senior Ladies’ Triples will be held on Sunday 1 September starting at 1.30pm. This will be a ’round-robin’ competition and the format will be defined on the day. All the best to everyone involved.
Finally, a wee heads-up for some upcoming events :
- Three sessions on the green (Noon, 2.00pm and 4.00pm) have been allocated to Finals on the weekend of 14 and 15 September. If you are involved in Finals this season and can play on these dates/times, please add your match(es) into the Tie Book.
- The annual RugBowl Trophy competition between ourselves and Corstorphine Rugby Club will be held on the green at 2.00pm on Sunday 8 September. Add your name to the list on the ‘Mixed’ Noticeboard if you wish to participate.

We are currently looking for 7 more names to make up the 6 rinks.
- The Ladies have their annual Friendly at home to Carrickknowe B.C. on Tuesday 17 September at 2.00pm. There is a list on the Ladies’ Noticeboard if you are available to play in this match.
