Events Week 17 – 12th August

Please read the attached document which details the bowling events involving our Club during the week beginning Monday 12 August
Firstly, on the Social calendar, there will be a Quiz Night, hosted by Alan Mather Jnr, in the Club on Saturday 24 August at 7.30pm. There is a list for members and guests who wish to take part in the main hall of the Clubhouse. Please add your names and support this very enjoyable evening.
The Gents’ Championship semi-finals will be held at 6.30pm on Friday 16 August. These matches involve Brian Sharp against George Richardson and Jim MacKay taking on Bob Page. All the best, guys. Please try to get along to the Club to support all 4 players in these games.
We have two teams in the semi-finals of the Water of Leith Championships at Currie B.C. on Wednesday 14 August at 2.00pm. Our Singles (Faye Stevens) is in action against Bainfield B.C. while the Triples (Pat Reid, Laura MacKay and Evelyn Lowe) will take on Balerno B.C. Good luck, ladies.
On Tuesday evening, our Ladies’ representatives in the EBA Knockout Triples (Jane Mitchell, Kath Brown and Marcia Norton) have a re-arranged match against Seafield B.C. at London Road Foundry at 6.30pm. Good luck, girls. If our team is successful, they will then take on London Road Foundry B.C. at Craigentinny on Thursday evening at 6.30pm. And, if successful then, they will compete in the Final of the competition at Seafield B.C. at 2.00pm on Sunday 18 August.
The Pairs (Pat Clark and Joan Mitchell) will take on either Summerside B.C. or Liberton B.C. at Northern in the semi-final of their EBA Knockout competition at 6.30pm on Thursday 15 August. Stick in, ladies. If they are successful, they will also compete in the Final at Seafield B.C. at 2.00pm on Sunday 18 August.
Our remaining representatives in the Senior Gents’ EBA Knockouts will compete in the quarter-finals of their respective competitions on Friday 16 August at Noon. Our Triples (George Richardson, Bill Cumming and Bernie Callaghan) will take on Liberton B.C. and our Fours (Les Brown, John Matear, Ricky Stevens and Clint Cassidy) have a match against Northern B.C. Both of these ties are at West End. All the best, guys.
On Saturday 17 August, we have the annual competition for the Cathy Connet Trophy at 2.00pm on the green. There is still a little time to add your name to the list on the ‘Mixed’ Noticeboard if you wish to participate in this very enjoyable afternoon.
Finally, a wee heads-up for some upcoming events :
- John Simpson will be running Junior Sessions on the following Sundays at 4pm for anyone who wants to bring their children/grandchildren for a try. 18th August and 8th & 15th September
- We are hosting the Ladies’ Water of Leith Championship Finals on Friday 23 August at 2.00pm. Please try to get along to the Club to see some very good lady bowlers in action.
- The re-arranged Ladies’ Clark Triples will take place at 1.30pm on Saturday 24 August. The draw for this competition is on the Ladies’ Noticeboard.
- The eagerly-awaited Ladies versus Gents match is scheduled for Sunday 25 August at 2.00pm. There are lists on both the Ladies’ and Gents’ Noticeboards for those members wishing to play.
- The annual Gents’ Friendly away to Blackhall B.C. will take place at 6.15pm on Tuesday 27 August. We are still looking for gents to play in this match. Please add your name to the list on the Gents’ Noticeboard if you can participate.
5. The Senior Ladies’ Triples competition will be held on Sunday 1 September (start time to be announced and will depend on number of entries). There is a list on the Senior Ladies’ Noticeboard (on the wall to the right of the Ladies’ locker-room door) for those who wish to take part in this. - We are hosting the inaugural RMBA President’s Cup on the green on Saturday 7 September. The format and timing for this competition has yet to be finalised but it is scheduled as an ‘all-day’ event.
- The annual RugBowl Trophy competition between ourselves and Corstorphine Rugby Club will be held on the green at 2.00pm on Sunday 8 September. Please add your name to the list on the ‘Mixed’ Noticeboard if you wish to participate.
- The annual Ladies’ Page Two-Bowl Pairs will be held on Monday 9 September starting at 1.30pm. There is a list on the Ladies’ Noticeboard for those ladies who would like to participate in this competition.
- On Wednesday 11 September, the annual Ladies v Senior Gents for the Carruth Trophy is scheduled at 2.00pm. There are lists on both the Ladies’ and Senior Gents’ Noticeboards for those members wanting to play.
- We are hosting the RMBA Knockouts Final at 1.30pm on Thursday 12 September. Please try to get along to the Club to support the players in this event.
- On Friday 13 September, our Senior Gents have their annual Friendly away to Carrick Knowe B.C. There is a list on the Seniors’ Noticeboard if you are able to play in this hugely enjoyable afternoon.
