Dear Members,

Please read the attached document which details the bowling events involving our Club during the week beginning Monday 22 September.

Firstly, huge congratulations to our RMBA ‘B’ Top Ten team who beat Seafield B.C. in the Final at Hillside last Thursday. Well done, guys, a wonderful achievement in bringing the trophy home.

Congratulations also to the following who won their Competition Finals last week :

– Bernie Callaghan for the Gents’ Two-Bowl

– Joe Blair for the Gents’ Blackhall Rosebowl

There are four Finals scheduled this week. On Monday, at 2.00pm, George Richardson will be in action against Clint Cassidy in the Senior Gents’ Championship. Then, on Wednesday, at 1.30pm, the Senior Gents’ Nominated Pairs final involving Frank Ross and Bill Cumming against Bobby Brown and David McNiven will take place. Also on Wednesday, we have the Final of the Vice-President’s competition between Alan Mather Snr and Angus McGarry which is scheduled at 2.00pm. Finally, on Wednesday at 5.00pm, we have the Final of the Murdoch Trophy involving Chris Bentley and Keith Bennett. All the best, lady and gents. Please try to get along to the Club to support the players in these matches.

Then, on Friday 26 September, the Ladies’ Closing Day will take place and, on Saturday 27 September, the Club Closing Day is scheduled. Both of these events start at 2.00pm on the green.

As mentioned before, what a quick season it has been. Doesn’t time fly when you are enjoying yourself!!!

Dear Members,

Please read the attached document which details the bowling events involving our Club during the week beginning Monday 15 September.

Firstly, huge congratulations to our Fours (Peter Anderson, Ronnie Clark, Donald MacKay and Les Brown) who won the Senior Gents’ North & West Knockouts last Tuesday afternoon beating a rink from Tanfield B.C. Well done, guys.

Congratulations also to the following who won their Competition Finals last week :
– Mo Crighton and Bernie Callaghan for the Club Pairs
– Joe Blair for the President’s
– Ronnie McLaren for the Ladies’ Isobel Callaghan Rosebowl
– Gladys Christie and Bernie Callaghan for the Birnie Mixed Pairs

There are two Finals scheduled this week. On Wednesday 17 September, Keith Bennett and Bernie Callaghan will compete in the Gents’ Two-Bowl starting at 5.00pm. Then, on Saturday 20 September at 11.00am, David McGuire will take on Joe Blair in the Gents’ Blackhall Rosebowl. All the best, guys. Please try to get along to the Club to support the players in these matches.

Our Senior Gents’ RMBA ‘B’ team have their Top Ten semi-final at home to Brunstane B.C. on Monday afternoon at 1.30pm. If successful, the team will then take on either Craigentinny B.C. or Seafield B.C. in the Final at Hillside on Thursday afternoon at 1.30pm. All the best, guys.

Our Ladies have their annual Friendly away to Carrickknowe B.C. at 2.00pm on Tuesday 16 September. We are sure everyone taking part will have a great afternoon.

We are hosting the Ladies’ Heather League Bowling Day on the green on Friday 19 September at 1.30pm. We are sure that all the Clubs involved will have a wonderful afternoon.

Please note that, on Friday 26 September, the Ladies’ Closing Day will take place and, on Saturday 27 September, the Club Closing Day is scheduled. Both of these events start at 2.00pm on the green. What a quick season it has been. Doesn’t time fly when you are enjoying yourself!!!

Firstly a reminder we are holding a Quiz Night this Saturday 13th, please add your names to the list in the club and come along and test your brain, hopefully everyone has at least one answer in there!

Firstly, a big shout-out to Ricky Stevens who progressed to the quarter-finals of the EBA Tait Trophy (Champion of Champions) over last weekend but unfortunately lost to an opponent from Brunstane B.C. at Carrickknowe on Saturday afternoon. A wonderful achievement, Ricky; you did yourself and the Club proud. Well done.

  1. On Monday 8 September at 4.30pm, the Club Pairs involving Ronnie Clark and Alan Mather Jnr taking on Mo Crighton and Bernie Callaghan
  2. On Wednesday 10 September at 6.00pm, the Final of the President’s Trophy between Graeme Herbert and Joe Blair will take place
  3. On Thursday 11 September at 2.00pm, Joan Mitchell and Ronnie McLaren will be in action in the Ladies’ Isobel Callaghan Rosebowl Final
  4. On Saturday 13 September at Noon, the Birnie Mixed Pairs involving Ronnie and Pat Clark against Gladys Christie and Bernie Callaghan
  5. On Sunday 14 September at 3.30pm, the Final of the Gents’ Two Bowl between Keith Bennett and Bernie Callaghan is scheduled

The semi-final of the RMBA Knockouts will be held at Seafield on Monday 8 September at 1.30pm with our ‘A’ team taking on Seafield B.C. If the guys are successful in this match, they will then be involved in the Final at Craigentinny at 1.30pm on Thursday 11 September. All the best, boys.

The annual Senior Gents’ Friendly at home to Carrickknowe B.C. will be held at 2.00pm on Friday 12 September. We are still looking for 2 players to make up the 6 rinks required for this match. A very enjoyable afternoon will be had by all involved!!

Finally, a wee heads-up for some upcoming events :

  1. The Ladies have their annual Friendly away to Carrickknowe B.C. on Tuesday 16 September at 2.00pm. The teams for this match are on the Ladies’ Noticeboard.

Dear Members,

Please read the attached document which details the bowling events involving our Club during the week beginning Monday 1 September.

Firstly, huge congratulations to Ricky Stevens who won the Gents’ Championship Final last Wednesday evening against John P Simpson. Well done, Ricky and, hard lines, John.

As a result, Ricky will now play in the EBA Tait Trophy (Champion of Champions) this week. His first game will be against the Lutton Place B.C. champion on Friday evening at 6.15pm at Queensberry. If Ricky wins this match, then he will have potentially two games on Saturday 6 September at 11.00am and 2.00pm at Carrickknowe. Then, if successful in these games, he will compete in the semi-final and (hopefully) the final at Seafield B.C. on Sunday 7 September at 11.00am and 2.00pm respectively. All the best, Ricky. Please try to get along to support him if you can.

Also, commiserations to Joe Blair who lost in the Final of the Gents’ EBA Knockout Singles yesterday (Saturday) at Seafield. But, a wonderful achievement in getting to the Final. Well done, Joe.

Please note that the draw for this season’s Murdoch Trophy is now on the ‘Mixed’ Noticeboard. This draw involves the finalists of 8 qualifying competitions over the year. Please check the Noticeboard for the closing dates for each round. The date for the first round matches is Friday 5th September.

Our Ladies have their annual Friendly away to Blackhall B.C. on Tuesday afternoon at 2.00pm. We are sure that everyone involved will have a great time.

The Ladies have their annual Page Two-Bowl competition on Friday 5 September at 1.00pm. Enjoy, ladies.

We currently have four Finals scheduled for this week.

The Final of the Gents’ Davis Triples with David Sutherland, Andy Lomax and John P Simpson taking on Joe Blair, Bernie Callaghan and David McNiven will take place at 5.30pm on Monday 1 September.

Then, on Saturday 6 September at 10.00am, Les Brown, Brian Howe, Tony McBride and Billy Samuel will play Bobby Brown, Charlie Sweeney, Ronnie Clark and Tom Mitchell in the Gents’ Walker Fours Final.

Also on Saturday at 2.00pm, Scott Jackson will take on Alex Johnston in the Final of the Senior Gents’ Two-Bowl.

On Sunday 7 September at Noon, the Ladies’ Two Bowl Final between Chris Bentley and Laura MacKay will take place.

Finally, a wee heads-up for some upcoming events :

  1. On Tuesday 9 September, we are hosting the Finals of the Senior Gents’ North & West Knockouts on the green at 2.00pm. Our representatives in the Fours (Peter Anderson, Alan Mather Snr, Ronnie Clark and Les Brown) will be competing against a rink from Tanfield B.C. Please try to get along to the green to support the guys if you can.
  2. On Wednesday 10 September, the annual Ladies v Senior Gents for the Carruth Trophy is scheduled at 2.00pm. Each side will consist of 3 rinks and the teams will be on the Noticeboards before the match.
  3. The annual Senior Gents’ Friendly at home to Carrickknowe B.C. is scheduled for 2.00pm on Friday 12 September. We are still looking for 6 players to make up the full squad of six rinks for this match. Please add your names to the list on the Senior Gents’ Noticeboard if you can participate in this excellent afternoon.
  4. The Ladies have their annual Friendly away to Carrickknowe B.C. on Tuesday 16 September at 2.00pm. The teams for this match will be posted on the Ladies’ Noticeboard.

Please read the attached document which details the bowling events involving our Club during the week beginning Monday 25 August.

Firstly, congratulations to Faye Stevens who won the Senior Ladies’ Championship yesterday (Saturday) against Gladys Christie and the Sutherland Quaich last Thursday afternoon beating Ronnie McLaren. Well done, Faye and commiserations to both Gladys and Ronnie.

Congratulations to Chris Bentley who won the Ladies’ Water of Leith Championship Singles against an opponent from Balerno B.C. last Friday. Well done, Chris. Commiserations to our Triples (Mo Crighton, Vicky Page and Joan Mitchell) who lost their Water of Leith Championship Final to Balerno B.C. in a close match. Hard lines, girls. But a great achievement in getting there.

The Gents’ Championship Final between John P Simpson and Ricky Stevens will take place on Wednesday 27 August at 6.30pm. Please try to get along to the Club to support both players in this very important match.

Our Ladies continue their EWBA campaigns this week with the Pairs (Faye Stevens and Gladys Christie) taking on Willowbrae B.C. and our Fours (Mo Crighton, Christine Ritchie, Ronnie McLaren and Vicky Page) in action against Carrickknowe B.C. Both of these ties are at Bainfield on Monday at 2.00pm. If the girls are successful, they will play at Braid at 1.30pm on Wednesday 27 August in the semi-finals. And, then, hopefully in the Finals at home on Saturday 30 August at 1.30pm. All the best, ladies.

We are hosting the EWBA Championship Finals on Saturday 30 August on the green at 1.30pm. Please try to get along to the green to see some very good lady bowlers in action. (including, hopefully, our Pairs and Fours).

Our representative in the Gents’ EBA Knockout Singles (Joe Blair) won his semi-final match last Thursday evening against Carrickknowe B.C. and will now play Craigentinny B.C. in the final at Seafield on Saturday 30 August at 2.00pm. Please try to get along to Seafield to support Joe if you can.

The annual match involving Corstorphine Rugby Club for the ‘RugBowl’ Trophy will be held on the green on Sunday 31 August at 2.00pm. We are sure that everyone involved will have a great afternoon.

Finally, a wee heads-up for some upcoming events :

  1. Three sessions on the green (Noon, 2.00pm and 4.00pm) have been allocated to Finals on the weekend of 6 and 7 September. If you are involved in Finals this season and can play on these dates/times, please add your match(es) into the Tie Book.
  2. The Ladies’ Page Two-Bowl Pairs will be held on the green at 1.00pm on Friday 5 September. There is a list on the Ladies’ Noticeboard for those wishing to take part in this competition.
  3. We are hosting the Senior Gents’ North & West Knockout Finals on the green on Tuesday 9 September at 2.00pm. Our Fours (Peter Anderson, Alan Mather Snr, Ronnie Clark and Les Brown) will be involved in this competition with a match against Tanfield B.C. Please try to get along to the Club to support our guys and see some very good bowlers in action.
  4. On Wednesday 10 September, the annual Ladies v Senior Gents for the Carruth Trophy is scheduled at 2.00pm. There are lists on both the Ladies’ and Senior Gents’ Noticeboards for those members wanting to play.
  5. On Friday 12 September, our Senior Gents have their annual Friendly at home to Carrickknowe B.C. There is still time to add your name to the list on the Senior Gents’ Noticeboard if you are able to play in this hugely enjoyable afternoon.

On the bowling front, huge congratulations to John P Simpson and Ricky Stevens who won their Gents’ Championship semi-finals against Tom Mitchell and Bobby Brown respectively. The Final will be held at 6.30pm on Wednesday 27th August. Please try to get along to the Club to support both players. All the best, guys.

The Ladies Senior Championship final between Gladys Christie and Faye Stevens will take place at 10.00am on Saturday 23rd August. The Sutherland Quaich final between Faye Stevens and Ronnie McLaren will take place at 2.00pm on Thursday 21st August. Please try to get along to the Club to support all the players.

We have two representatives in the Ladies’ Water of Leith Championships Finals at Currie at 1.30pm on Friday 22nd August. Both our Singles (Chris Bentley) and our Triples (Mo Crighton, Vicky Page and Joan Mitchell) will take on opponents from Balerno B.C. in their respective Finals. Again, please try to get along to Currie to support the ladies in these matches. Good luck, girls.

Our Ladies start their campaigns in the EWBA Championship games on Monday afternoon at 2.00pm. The Pairs (Faye Stevens and Gladys Christie) will play Mayfield B.C. at Currie and the Triples (Jane Mitchell, Laura MacKay and Joan Mitchell) have a match against Craigentinny B.C. at Goldenacre. If they are successful in these games, then on Wednesday afternoon at 2.00pm, the Pairs will have another match at Parkside and the Triples will play at Mayfield. At the same time on Wednesday afternoon, our Fours (Mo Crighton, Christine Ritchie, Ronnie McLaren and Vicky Page) will take on Sighthill B.C. at Juniper Green. Finally, on Wednesday evening at 6.15pm, our Singles (Chris Bentley) has a match against Seafield B.C. at Blackhall. Good luck, ladies.

In the semi-finals of the EBA Knockout competitions, we will be represented by our Gents’ Singles (Joe Blair) who will compete against Carrickknowe B.C. at Queensberry on Thursday evening at 6.30pm and by our Senior Gents’ Singles (George Richardson) who will take on Dean B.C. also at Queensberry on Friday afternoon at 1.30pm. Stick in, guys.

The re-arranged Senior Gents’ North & West Knockout Fours will take place on Monday 18 August at 11.00am. Our team (Peter Anderson, Ronnie Clark, Alan Mather Snr and Les Brown) has a game against Queensberry B.C. at Queensberry. All the best, guys.

Our Gents will have their annual Friendly at home to Blackhall B.C. on Wednesday 20 August at 6.15pm. We are sure everyone involved will have a great evening.

Then, on Sunday 24 August, we have the annual Ladies vs Gents match at 2.00pm. This is always a very competitive and enjoyable afternoon. Please note that we are still looking for 4 gents to put their names on the list to match the number of ladies playing. Time to step up, guys!!

  1. We are hosting the Finals of the EWBA Championships on the green at 1.30pm on Saturday 30 August. Please try to get along to the Club to support the ladies involved in these matches.
  2. The annual RugBowl Trophy competition between ourselves and Corstorphine Rugby Club will be held on the green at 2.00pm on Sunday 31 August. Currently, there are only six names on the list on the ‘Mixed’ Noticeboard. Please add your names if you wish to participate.
  3. The annual Ladies’ Friendly away to Blackhall B.C. will be held on Tuesday 2 September at 2.00pm. There is a list on the Ladies’ Noticeboard for those who wish to be involved in this match.
  4. The annual Ladies’ Page Two-Bowl Pairs will be held on Friday 5 September starting at 1.00pm. There is still a little time to add your names to the list on the Ladies’ Noticeboard if you wish to play in this competition.

Firstly, please note that the Hat Night will start at 6.30pm on Monday 11 August.

The Gents’ Championship semi-finals will be held at 6.30pm on Friday 15 August. These matches involve Tom Mitchell against John P Simpson and Ricky Stevens taking on Bobby Brown. All the best, guys. Please try to get along to the Club to support all 4 players in these games.

Our representatives in the Senior Gents’ North & West Knockout Triples (Angus McGarry, Neil Gowans and Brian Howe) have a re-arranged match against Queensberry B.C. at Queensberry on Monday 11 August at 1.45pm. Stick in, boys.

We have three teams in the semi-finals of the Water of Leith Championships at Sighthill B.C. on Wednesday 13 August at 2.00pm. Our Singles (Chris Bentley) is in action against Bainfield B.C., the Pairs (Ronnie McLaren and Pat Clark) will take on Sighthill B.C. and the Triples (Mo Crighton, Vicky Page and Joan Mitchell) will also compete against Sighthill B.C. Good luck, ladies.

On Thursday evening, our representative in the Gents’ EBA Knockout Singles (Joe Blair) will take on Colinton B.C. at Mayfield while our Pairs (Scott Jackson and Keith Bennett) have a match against Seafield B.C. at Craigentinny. Both of these ties are at 6.45pm. Stick in, guys.

Our remaining representatives in the Senior Gents’ EBA Knockouts will compete in the quarter-finals of their respective competitions on Friday 15 August at 1.30pm. Our Singles (George Richardson) will take on Maitland or Brunstane B.C. at Leith while our Triples (Clint Cassidy, David McNiven and Bernie Callaghan) have a match against Bainfield B.C. at Carrickknowe. All the best, guys.

On Saturday 16 August, we have the annual competition for the Cathy Connet Trophy at 2.00pm on the green. There is still a little time to add your name to the list on the ‘Mixed’ Noticeboard if you wish to participate in this very enjoyable afternoon.

The annual Ladies’ Clark Fours will be held on Sunday 17 August at 1.30pm for a 2.00pm start. We are sure that everyone involved will have a great afternoon.

On Monday afternoon at 1.45pm, our remaining teams in the North & West Senior Knockouts take on Queensberry B.C. at Queensberry. All the best to our Triples (Angus McGarry, Neil Gowans and Brian Howe) and to our Fours (Peter Anderson, Ronnie Clark, Les Brown and Donald MacKay).

Our Ladies kick off their Water of Leith Championships campaigns on Wednesday afternoon at 2.00pm. On Thursday evening, our Ladies’ representatives have games in the EBA Knockouts competitions. Our Singles (Evelyn Lowe) has a match against Currie B.C. at Dean and our Triples (Mo Crighton, Pat Clark and Joan Mitchell) will be in action against Tanfield B.C. at Summerside. Both of these ties start at 6.45pm. Good luck, girls.

Also on Thursday, our Gents’ Singles (Joe Blair) has a game against Wardie B.C. at Northern and our Pairs (Scott Jackson and Keith Bennett) will take on Whitehouse & Grange B.C. at Sighthill in the EBA Knockouts at 6.45pm. Stick in, guys. At the same time, we are hosting 5 ties in this competition on the green.

On Friday afternoon, our representatives in the Senior Gents’ EBA Knockouts continue their campaign. The Singles (George Richardson) will take on Summerside B.C. at Jessfield, our Triples (Bobby Brown, Clint Cassidy and Bernie Callaghan) have a match against London Road Foundry B.C. at Dudley and our Fours (Jim Connor, Gordon Munro, David Sutherland and David McNiven) will take on Slateford B.C. at Postal. All of these ties are at 1.30pm. All the best, guys.

The annual Hyland Rigg Trophy competition for Senior Gents will be held on Friday 8 August at 1.30pm (please note revised start time). We are sure that everyone involved will have a very enjoyable afternoon. Please note there will be no Hat Day on Friday afternoon.

Finally, a wee heads-up for some upcoming events :

1. Both Gents’ Championship semi-finals are scheduled for 6.30pm on Friday 15 August. These games involve Tom Mitchell against John P Simpson and Ricky Stevens against Bobby Brown. Please try to get along to the Club to support all 4 players in these matches.

2. The annual Cathy Connet Trophy competition will be held on the green on Saturday 16 August starting at 2.00pm. There is a list on the ‘Mixed’ Noticeboard for those members who wish to take part in this very enjoyable afternoon.

3. The Ladies have their Clark Fours competition on the green on Sunday 17 August starting at 1.30pm. There is a list on the Ladies’ Noticeboard for those members who wish to be involved in this very enjoyable afternoon.

4. The Gents will have their annual Friendly at home to Blackhall B.C. on Wednesday 20 August at 6.15pm. There is a list on the Gents’ Noticeboard for those wishing to play in this match. We only have 5 names on the list so far and we are looking for 16. Come on, guys, your Club needs you.

5. The eagerly-awaited Ladies versus Gents match is scheduled for Sunday 24 August at 2.00pm. There are lists on both the Ladies’ and Gents’ Noticeboards for those members wishing to play.

6. We are hosting the Finals of the EWBA Championships on the green on Saturday 30 August at 1.30pm. Please try to get along to the Club to see some of the best lady bowlers in Edinburgh in action.

7. The annual ‘RugBowl’ competition between ourselves and Corstorphine Rugby Club will be held on Sunday 31 August starting at 2.00pm. There is a list on the ‘Mixed’ Noticeboard for those members wishing to play in this hugely enjoyable afternoon.

8. The annual Ladies’ Page Two-Bowl Pairs will be held on Friday 5 September starting at 1.00pm. There will be a list on the Ladies’ Noticeboard for those ladies who would like to participate in this competition.

Dear Members,

Please read the attached document which details the bowling events involving our Club during the week beginning Monday 28 July.

Firstly, huge congratulations to Chris Bentley who won the Ladies’ Championship Final last Friday against Evelyn Lowe. It was a good match and a credit to both players. Well done, Chris and commiserations, Evelyn.

Please note that the green will be closed all day on Thursday 31 July for fertilisation.

The National Championships are being held at Ayr, Northfield this week. Stuart Campbell will be representing the Club in the Gents’ Singles this year and his first match will be at 11.30am on Thursday 31 July against an opponent from Thornhill B.C. If he is successful in this game, then Stuart will have potentially two further matches on Friday at 9.30am and 3.30pm. And, if successful in these, will be involved in the semi-final on Saturday at 9.00am and (hopefully) the final on Saturday afternoon (time TBC). All the very best, Stuart. Please try to get to Ayr to support Stuart if you can.

Our annual Invitation Pairs competition will be held on 3 August (start times to be announced later in the week). Currently, we have 22 pairs on the list to compete. There is room for 2 more pairs to be added before we carry out the draw on Thursday. First come, first served!!!

The Ladies’ Championship Final between Evelyn Lowe and Chris Bentley will take place at 11.00am on Friday 25 July. Please try to get along to the Club to support both players in this very important match. All the best, ladies.

Our Ladies’ Top Ten team will take on Liberton B.C. at home at 2.00pm on Monday 21 July in the semi-final of the competition. Again, please try to get along to the Club on Monday afternoon to support the ladies in this game. Good luck, girls.

The EBA Knockouts continue this week. Our Ladies’ Singles (Evelyn Lowe) has a match against Queensberry B.C. at Bainfield while the Pairs (Val Mather and Marcia Norton) take on Maitland B.C. also at Bainfield and our Triples (Mo Crighton, Pat Clark and Joan Mitchell) will compete against Portobello B.C. at Whitehouse & Grange. All of these ties are at 6.45pm on Thursday 24 July. Good luck, girls. At the same time, we are hosting 4 ties in these competitions on the green.

Also on Thursday evening, our remaining representatives in the Gents’ EBA Knockouts kick off their campaigns. Our Singles (Joe Blair) has a game against London Road Foundry B.C. at Trinity while our Pairs (Scott Jackson and Keith Bennett) will take on Currie B.C. at Liberton and the Fours (Ricky Stevens, Jim MacKay, David McNiven and George Richardson) will compete against Willowbrae B.C. at Summerside. Then, on Friday, our Senior Gents’ representatives have EBA Knockout matches. The Singles (Jim MacKay) will take on Braid B.C. at Ardmillan and our Pairs (Les Brown and Ricky Stevens) have a match against Seafield B.C. at Liberton. Our Triples (Bobby Brown, Bill Cumming and Bernie Callaghan) compete against Mayfield B.C. at Dean and the Fours (Jim Connor, Gordon Munro, David Sutherland and David McNiven) have a game against Pilrig B.C. at Brunstane. All of these game start at 1.30pm. Stick in, guys.

The CBC Open Singles (aka the Bowls & Barbeque) will take place on the green on Saturday 26 July starting at 10.00am. This is always a very enjoyable day and is organised and run by Scott Mitchell.

The National Championships start at Ayr, Northfield on Saturday 26 July. As intimated previously, we will be represented in the Gents’ Singles by Stuart Campbell and his first game will be at 11.30am on Thursday 31 July with a match against an opponent from Thornhill B.C. If successful, Stuart will have potentially two games on the Friday and two on the Saturday. All the best, Stuart. Please try to get to Ayr to support him, if you can.
