Events Week 19 – 28th August
Dear Members,
Please read the attached document which details the bowling events involving our Club during the week beginning Monday 28 August.
Firstly, huge congratulations to Stuart Campbell who won the Gents’ Championship last Friday evening in a fine match against Andy Lomax. The game was a real credit to both players. Well done, Stuart and hard lines, Andy.
Also, huge congratulations to David Sutherland who beat Brian Henaghen in the Final of the Senior Gents’ Championship on Friday afternoon. Well done, David and hard lines, Brian.
Commiserations to our Ladies’ EWBA Pairs (Jean Meiklejohn and Chris Bentley) who unfortunately lost the Final of their competition against Braid B.C. last Friday afternoon at Wardie. Hard lines, girls. But a great achievement in getting there.
We have four Finals scheduled for this week :
1. The Club Pairs with Roy Beavis and Dougie Wilson taking on Angus McGarry and Bernie Callaghan on Wednesday at 2.00pm
2. The Senior Ladies’ Championship between Joan Mitchell and Theresa Blair on Thursday at 11.00am
3. The Birnie Mixed Pairs with Pat Reid and David McGuire in action against Jane Mitchell and Willie Stoddart on Sunday at 10.00am
4. The Ladies’ Nominated Pairs involving Jean Meiklejohn and Theresa Blair against Pat Clark and Evelyn Lowe also on Sunday at 10.00am
Please try to get along to the Club to support the players in these matches if you can. All the best, guys and gals.
We have the honour of hosting the New Zealand Deaf Bowls team on two days this week. They will have two practice sessions on the green at 11.00am and 2.00pm on Wednesday 30th and Thursday 31st. These (two-rink) sessions are in preparation for the World Deaf Bowls Championships being held at Colinton B.C. the following week. Please make these bowlers feel very welcome if you are at the Club on these occasions.
The annual Ladies’ Page Two-Bowl Pairs competition will be held on the green at 1.30pm on Monday 28 August. We are sure that everyone involved will have a wonderful afternoon.
The Ladies’ Water of Leith Championship Finals will be held at Colinton B.C. on Wednesday 30 August at 2.00pm. Our Triples (Theresa Blair, Pat Reid and Joan Mitchell) will take on Sighthill B.C. All the best, ladies.
The Senior Ladies’ Triples will be held on Saturday 2 September starting at 1.30pm. The draw for this competition will be on the Senior Ladies’ Noticeboard later this week.
Finally, a wee heads-up for some upcoming events :
1. Two sessions on the green (2.00pm and 4.00pm) have been allocated to Finals on the weekend of 9 and 10 September. If you are involved in Finals this season and can play on these dates/times, please add your match(es) into the Tie Book.
2. On Wednesday 13 September, the annual Ladies v Senior Gents for the Carruth Trophy is scheduled at 2.00pm. There are lists on both the Ladies’ and Senior Gents’ Noticeboards for those members wanting to play.
3. On Friday 15 September, our Senior Gents have their annual Friendly at home to Carrickknowe B.C. There is still time to add your name to the list on the Senior Gents’ Noticeboard if you are able to play in this hugely enjoyable afternoon. We are currently looking for 3 more names to make up the 6 rinks.
4. The annual RugBowl Trophy competition between ourselves and Corstorphine Rugby Club will be held on the green at 2.00pm on Sunday 17 September. Add your name to the list on the ‘Mixed’ Noticeboard if you wish to participate.
5. The Ladies have their annual Friendly away to Carrickknowe B.C. on Tuesday 19 September at 2.00pm. There is a list on the Ladies’ Noticeboard if you are available to play in this match.
