Events Week 5 – 20th May

  • May 18, 2024May 18, 2024

Dear Members,

Please read the attached document which details the bowling events involving our Club during the week beginning Monday 20 May.

Our Bowls Scotland Seniors’ representatives in the Singles (Clint Cassidy and George Richardson) will both be in action on Monday afternoon at Juniper Green against Carrickknowe B.C. and at Slateford against Beechwood B.C. respectively. All the best, guys. In addition, our remaining Bowls Scotland Senior Fours representatives will continue their campaign on Monday afternoon. Jim MacKay, Les Brown, Bill Cumming and Scott Jackson have a match against Slateford B.C. at Mayfield. Good luck, boys. All of these games start at 2.00pm.

Our Ladies continue their East of Scotland campaigns next week as well. Our Singles (Cathy Souza) will take on Currie B.C. at Sighthill and the Fours (Faye Stevens, Ronnie McLaren, Gladys Christie and Pat Clark) have a match against Currie B.C. at Braid on Tuesday afternoon. Then, on Thursday afternoon, our Triples (Jane Mitchell, Pat Reid and Joan Mitchell) will take on Beechwood B.C. at Bainfield. All of these games start at 2.00pm. Stick in, girls.

We have 4 Ladies’ external ties on the green on Tuesday 21 May. In the afternoon at 2.00pm, we have an East of Scotland Fours match while, at 6.30pm, we have an East of Scotland Singles game and two Bowls Scotland Junior Singles matches. Please try to get along to the Club to see some very good Lady bowlers in action.

Our Gents’ Bowls Scotland representatives in the District 15 competitions have games on Tuesday evening at 6.45pm. One of our Singles representatives (Stuart Campbell) has a match against Bainfield B.C. at Whitehouse & Grange while the other (Andy Lomax) will take on Braid B.C. at Colinton. At the same time, our Pairs (Bob Page and David McNiven) compete against Currie B.C. at Braid. Our Triples (John Cowe, David McGuire and Bernie Callaghan) have a match against Balerno B.C. at Juniper Green. Finally, our Fours (Ronnie McCall, John Greig, John Matear and Keith Bennett) will take on Parkside B.C. at Whitehouse & Grange. All the best, guys.

Then, on Thursday evening at 6.45pm, our representative in the EBA Ladies’ Set Singles competition (Faye Stevens) will take on Carrickknowe B.C. at Bainfield. At the same time, our Gents’ representatives (David Sutherland and Bernie Callaghan) in the EBA Aussie Pairs have a match against Sighthill B.C. at Willowbrae and our Mixed Rink (Laura MacKay, Ronnie McLaren, Dougie Wilson and Tom Mitchell) will take on Hillside B.C. at Craigentinny. Good luck, guys and gals. We are also hosting 6 ties in the various EBA competitions on Thursday evening.

Next weekend, our Senior Ladies’ teams kick off their Bowls Scotland campaigns. One of our representatives in the Singles (Joan Mitchell) will take on Beechwood B.C. at Liberton on Saturday 25 May at 11.00am and, if successful, will have another match at Liberton on the Sunday at 11.00am. The other Singles representative (Faye Stevens) has a game against Bainfield B.C. at Liberton on Saturday 25 May at 2.00pm and, if successful, will have another match on the Sunday at Liberton at 11.00am. Our Senior Fours ‘A’ (Pat Reid, Kath Brown, Gladys Christie and Chris Bentley) will take on Parkside B.C. at Sighthill at 2.00pm on Saturday 25 May and, if successful, will have another match at Sighthill on the Sunday at 2.00pm. Our Senior Fours ‘B’ (Jean Meiklejohn, Ronnie McLaren, TBC and Pat Clark) have a game against Currie B.C. at Sighthill at 2.00pm on Saturday 25 May and, if successful, will have another game at Sighthill on the Sunday at 2.00pm. All the best, girls.

Hopefully, our remaining Bowls Scotland Mixed Pairs representatives (Pat Reid and David McGuire) will still be in action in the next round of their competition on Sunday 26 May with a match at Juniper Green at 6.00pm. All the best, Pat and David.

Finally, a wee ‘heads-up’ on some upcoming competitions :

  1. The Senior Gents have their annual Bob Horsham Trophy game at 2.00pm on Friday 7 June. There is a list on the Seniors’ Notice-board for those wishing to be involved.
  1. We will be sending a team (Les Brown, Billy Samuel and Bernie Callaghan) to the annual EBA Charity Triples competition to be held at Willowbrae B.C. on Saturday 8 June starting at 9.30am. All the best, guys.
  1. Also on Saturday 8 June, we will be hosting the Finals of the Ladies’ Bowls Scotland District 15 competitions starting at 10.00am. Please try to get along to the Club to support the Ladies in their quest to get to the National Championships at Ayr, Northfield in July.
  1. The annual Ladies’ Captain’s Charity Pairs is scheduled for Saturday 15 June on the green. There is a list on the Ladies’ Noticeboard for those ladies who wish to participate. Each pair will consist of a Corstorphine B.C. lady and an invited guest from outwith the Club. This is always a great day and helps raise money for this year’s chosen charity (Chest, Heart and Stroke, Scotland).

The Management Committee.
