Events Week 20 – 1st September
Dear Members,
Please read the attached document which details the bowling events involving our Club during the week beginning Monday 1 September.
Firstly, huge congratulations to Ricky Stevens who won the Gents’ Championship Final last Wednesday evening against John P Simpson. Well done, Ricky and, hard lines, John.
As a result, Ricky will now play in the EBA Tait Trophy (Champion of Champions) this week. His first game will be against the Lutton Place B.C. champion on Friday evening at 6.15pm at Queensberry. If Ricky wins this match, then he will have potentially two games on Saturday 6 September at 11.00am and 2.00pm at Carrickknowe. Then, if successful in these games, he will compete in the semi-final and (hopefully) the final at Seafield B.C. on Sunday 7 September at 11.00am and 2.00pm respectively. All the best, Ricky. Please try to get along to support him if you can.
Also, commiserations to Joe Blair who lost in the Final of the Gents’ EBA Knockout Singles yesterday (Saturday) at Seafield. But, a wonderful achievement in getting to the Final. Well done, Joe.
Please note that the draw for this season’s Murdoch Trophy is now on the ‘Mixed’ Noticeboard. This draw involves the finalists of 8 qualifying competitions over the year. Please check the Noticeboard for the closing dates for each round. The date for the first round matches is Friday 5th September.
Our Ladies have their annual Friendly away to Blackhall B.C. on Tuesday afternoon at 2.00pm. We are sure that everyone involved will have a great time.
The Ladies have their annual Page Two-Bowl competition on Friday 5 September at 1.00pm. Enjoy, ladies.
We currently have four Finals scheduled for this week.
The Final of the Gents’ Davis Triples with David Sutherland, Andy Lomax and John P Simpson taking on Joe Blair, Bernie Callaghan and David McNiven will take place at 5.30pm on Monday 1 September.
Then, on Saturday 6 September at 10.00am, Les Brown, Brian Howe, Tony McBride and Billy Samuel will play Bobby Brown, Charlie Sweeney, Ronnie Clark and Tom Mitchell in the Gents’ Walker Fours Final.
Also on Saturday at 2.00pm, Scott Jackson will take on Alex Johnston in the Final of the Senior Gents’ Two-Bowl.
On Sunday 7 September at Noon, the Ladies’ Two Bowl Final between Chris Bentley and Laura MacKay will take place.
All the best to everyone involved. Please try to get along to the Club to support the players in these Finals.
Finally, a wee heads-up for some upcoming events :
- On Tuesday 9 September, we are hosting the Finals of the Senior Gents’ North & West Knockouts on the green at 2.00pm. Our representatives in the Fours (Peter Anderson, Alan Mather Snr, Ronnie Clark and Les Brown) will be competing against a rink from Tanfield B.C. Please try to get along to the green to support the guys if you can.
- On Wednesday 10 September, the annual Ladies v Senior Gents for the Carruth Trophy is scheduled at 2.00pm. Each side will consist of 3 rinks and the teams will be on the Noticeboards before the match.

We are still looking for 6 players to make up the full squad of six rinks for this match. Please add your names to the list on the Senior Gents’ Noticeboard if you can participate in this excellent afternoon.
