
Events Week 16 – 4th August
Dear Members,
Please read the attached document which details the bowling events involving our Club during the week beginning Monday 4 August.
On Monday afternoon at 1.45pm, our remaining teams in the North & West Senior Knockouts take on Queensberry B.C. at Queensberry. All the best to our Triples (Angus McGarry, Neil Gowans and Brian Howe) and to our Fours (Peter Anderson, Ronnie Clark, Les Brown and Donald MacKay).
Our Ladies kick off their Water of Leith Championships campaigns on Wednesday afternoon at 2.00pm. Our Pairs (Laura MacKay and Pat Clark) will take on Colinton B.C. at Balerno while our Triples (Mo Crighton, Vicky Page and Joan Mitchell) have a match against Currie B.C. at Colinton. Good luck, ladies. At the same time, we are hosting two ties in this competition on the green.
On Thursday evening, our Ladies’ representatives have games in the EBA Knockouts competitions. Our Singles (Evelyn Lowe) has a match against Currie B.C. at Dean and our Triples (Mo Crighton, Pat Clark and Joan Mitchell) will be in action against Tanfield B.C. at Summerside. Both of these ties start at 6.45pm. Good luck, girls.
Also on Thursday, our Gents’ Singles (Joe Blair) has a game against Wardie B.C. at Northern and our Pairs (Scott Jackson and Keith Bennett) will take on Whitehouse & Grange B.C. at Sighthill in the EBA Knockouts at 6.45pm. Stick in, guys. At the same time, we are hosting 5 ties in this competition on the green.
On Friday afternoon, our representatives in the Senior Gents’ EBA Knockouts continue their campaign. The Singles (George Richardson) will take on Summerside B.C. at Jessfield, our Triples (Bobby Brown, Clint Cassidy and Bernie Callaghan) have a match against London Road Foundry B.C. at Dudley and our Fours (Jim Connor, Gordon Munro, David Sutherland and David McNiven) will take on Slateford B.C. at Postal. All of these ties are at 1.30pm. All the best, guys.
The annual Hyland Rigg Trophy competition for Senior Gents will be held on Friday 8 August at 1.30pm (please note revised start time). We are sure that everyone involved will have a very enjoyable afternoon. Please note there will be no Hat Day on Friday afternoon.
Finally, a wee heads-up for some upcoming events :
1. Both Gents’ Championship semi-finals are scheduled for 6.30pm on Friday 15 August. These games involve Tom Mitchell against John P Simpson and Ricky Stevens against Bobby Brown. Please try to get along to the Club to support all 4 players in these matches.
2. The annual Cathy Connet Trophy competition will be held on the green on Saturday 16 August starting at 2.00pm. There is a list on the ‘Mixed’ Noticeboard for those members who wish to take part in this very enjoyable afternoon.
3. The Ladies have their Clark Fours competition on the green on Sunday 17 August starting at 1.30pm. There is a list on the Ladies’ Noticeboard for those members who wish to be involved in this very enjoyable afternoon.
4. The Gents will have their annual Friendly at home to Blackhall B.C. on Wednesday 20 August at 6.15pm. There is a list on the Gents’ Noticeboard for those wishing to play in this match. We only have 5 names on the list so far and we are looking for 16. Come on, guys, your Club needs you.
5. The eagerly-awaited Ladies versus Gents match is scheduled for Sunday 24 August at 2.00pm. There are lists on both the Ladies’ and Gents’ Noticeboards for those members wishing to play.
6. We are hosting the Finals of the EWBA Championships on the green on Saturday 30 August at 1.30pm. Please try to get along to the Club to see some of the best lady bowlers in Edinburgh in action.
7. The annual ‘RugBowl’ competition between ourselves and Corstorphine Rugby Club will be held on Sunday 31 August starting at 2.00pm. There is a list on the ‘Mixed’ Noticeboard for those members wishing to play in this hugely enjoyable afternoon.
8. The annual Ladies’ Page Two-Bowl Pairs will be held on Friday 5 September starting at 1.00pm. There will be a list on the Ladies’ Noticeboard for those ladies who would like to participate in this competition.
