Events Week 6 – 30th May
Dear Members,
Please read the attached document which details the bowling events involving our Club during the week beginning Monday 30 May.
For those members involved in the Gents’ Second XVI match against Tanfield B.C. on Wednesday, please note that the start time for this match is 6.15pm.
On Monday afternoon, our Ladies’ Top Ten kick off their campaign with a match against Maitland B.C. at home at 2.00pm. All the best, girls.
Also on Monday afternoon, our representative in the Bowls Scotland Senior Gents’ Singles (Ricky Stevens) will take on Liberton B.C. at Braid at 2.00pm. Stick in, Ricky.
Then on Tuesday afternoon, our Ladies’ Singles (Joan Mitchell) and Fours (Pat Reid, Pat Calder, Gladys Christie and Theresa Blair) compete in the East of Scotland district semi-finals against Sighthill B.C. and Bainfield B.C. at Sighthill and Maitland respectively. These ties start at 2.00pm. Good luck, ladies.
On Tuesday evening, our Gents’ Bowls Scotland representatives continue their quest to qualify for the National Championships in July. One of our Singles’ representatives (Jim MacKay) will take on Mayfield B.C. at Slateford while the other (Clint Cassidy) is in action against Gorgie Mills B.C. at Liberton. Our Pairs (Jim Connor and Bernie Callaghan) have a game against Edinburgh West End B.C. at Colinton while the Triples (Willie Stoddart, Dougie Wilson and George Richardson) take on Colinton B.C. at Slateford and the Fours (Bobby Brown, Charlie Sweeney, Ronnie Clark and Willie Aitken) compete against Slateford B.C. at Colinton. All of these ties start at 6.45pm. All the best, guys.
Also on Tuesday evening, we are hosting 4 Gents’ Bowls Scotland ties on the green at 6.45pm.
On Thursday afternoon, our Ladies’ East of Scotland representatives in the Pairs (Moyra Ferrier and Pat Clark) and the Triples (Faye Stevens, Joan McBain and Chris Bentley) are in action in their semi-final ties. The pairs take on Sighthill B.C. and the Triples have a match against Juniper Green B.C. Both of these games are at Carrickknowe B.C. at 2.00pm. Good luck, girls.
On Thursday evening, we have two representatives in the EBA Set Singles competition. Keith Moyes will take on Coltbridge B.C. at Slateford and David McNiven has a game against either Liberton B.C. or Postal B.C. at Craigentinny. Both of these matches begin at 6.45pm. All the best, guys.
Then, on Saturday 4 June, our Senior Ladies kick off their Bowls Scotland qualifying journeys. In the Singles, Chris Bentley takes on Colinton B.C. and Faye Stevens is in action against Gorgie Mills B.C. These games are at Bainfield at 10.00am. If successful, Chris and Faye will have another match on Sunday at Bainfield at 10.00am.
In the Fours, one of our teams (Pat Reid, Vicky Page, Pat Clark and Theresa Blair) will take on Parkside B.C. at Sighthill on Saturday at 2.00pm. If successful, they will have another game at Sighthill on the Sunday at 2.00pm. The other rink (Pat Calder, Joan McBain, Moyra Ferrier and Joan Mitchell) has their first game on Sunday at Sighthill at 10.00am.and, if successful, will have another match at Sighthill on the same day at 2.00pm.
Hopefully, our remaining representatives in the Bowls Scotland Mixed Pairs (Pat Reid and David McGuire) will be in action in their quarter-final tie at 6.00pm on Sunday 5 June at Parkside.
Finally, a couple of reminders :
Firstly, the list for participants in the annual Bob Horsham Trophy (Friday 10 June) is on the Senior Gents’ Noticeboard. Please add your name if you can take part.
Secondly, we are still looking for two members to accompany Les Brown in representing the Club in the annual EBA Charity Triples event at Willowbrae B.C. on Saturday 11 June starting at 9.30am. Please contact Bernie Callaghan if you would like to take part in this very worthwhile day.
Finally, the annual Gents’ Friendly against Carrickknowe will be held on the green at 2.00pm on Saturday 18 June. We need 6 rinks for this match and currently we only have 7 names on the list. Please add your name if you are available; this is always a very enjoyable afternoon.
