Events week 14 – 25th July

  • July 24, 2022

Dear Members,

Please read the attached document which details the bowling events involving our Club during the week beginning Monday 25 July.

Firstly, our Ladies’ Triples (Faye Stevens, Gladys Christie and Moyra Ferrier) won their first match against Largs Halkshill B.C. in the National Championships at Ayr last Thursday. Then, after a titanic game with Cumnock B.C., they lost on Friday morning after an extra end. As we all know, it can be a cruel game at times. Hard lines, girls. But you did both the Club and yourselves proud in qualifying for the Championships and doing so well when you got there. Well done.

Secondly, congratulations to our RMBA ‘A’ team who won their League last Thursday with a game to spare. Great stuff, guys.

Thirdly, both the Ladies’ and Gents’ Championship Finals will take place this week. On Friday evening at 6.30pm, Stuart Campbell will take on Alan Sharp in the Gents’ Final. Then, on Sunday at Noon, Evelyn Lowe and Chris Bentley will contest the Lasies’ Final. All the best to all 4 players. Please try to get to the Club to support the players in these very important matches.

On Tuesday evening this week, our Gents take on Craigentinny B.C. at home at 6.30pm in the next round of the Top Ten. All the best, boys. Please try to get along to the Club to support the team in this match if you can.

We have our annual Friendly with Centurion B.C. at 6.30pm on the green on Thursday. We are sure that everyone involved will have a great night.

Also on Thursday evening our Ladies’ representative (Chris Bentley) has her first game in the EBA Knockout Singles taking on Currie B.C. at Hillside at 6.30pm. Best of luck, Chris.

Our Gents’ representatives have matches in their EBA Knockout competitions on Thursday evening too. Our Singles entry (Scott Mitchell) will take on Portobello B.C. at Colinton; our Pairs (Jim Connor and Bernie Callaghan) have a match against Pilrig B.C. at Leith; our Triples (Ronnie Clark, Dougie Wilson and Mark Hewitt) have a game against Slateford B.C. at West End and our Fours (Stewart Mason, Ian Pickard, Ricky Stevens and George Richardson) will take on Northern B.C. at Queensberry. All of these ties are at 6.45pm. Stick in, guys.

On Friday afternoon, we are hosting 4 ties in the Senior Gents’ EBA Knockouts.

On Saturday, the Ladies’ Captain’s Charity Pairs competition is scheduled to begin at 10.00am. We are sure that everyone participating in this very enjoyable and worthwhile day will have a great time. The Charity being supported is Breast Cancer Now.

On Sunday evening, hopefully our representatives (Chris Bentley, Marcia Norton, Bill Cumming and David Sutherland) in the EBA Mixed Rink competition have a match at Leith at 6.30pm. Good luck, guys and gals.

Finally, a wee heads-up for some upcoming events :

1. The Ladies have their annual friendly with Gala B.C. away from home on Thursday 4 August starting at 2.00pm. We are sure that all the ladies involved will have a great day.

2. Our Senior Gents have their annual Hyland Rigg competition on Friday 5 August starting at 2.00pm. There is still time to add your name to the list on the Senior Gents’ Noticeboard if you wish to participate.

3. The Club has its annual Invitation Pairs competition on Sunday 7 August. There is a list on the ‘Mixed’ Noticeboard for those members (and their partners from other Clubs) who wish to play in this event. Please note that there will be an entry fee of £10 per pair for this competition.

4. Our Ladies have their annual Clark Fours competition on the green on Sunday 14 August starting at 1.30pm. There is a list on the Ladies’ Noticeboard if you wish to participate in this event.

5. The Gents will have their annual Friendly away to Blackhall B.C. on Wednesday 17 August at 6.15pm. There is a list on the Gents’ Noticeboard for those gents wishing to play in this match.

6. The annual Cathy Connet Trophy competition will be held on the green on Saturday 20 August starting at 2.00pm. There is a list on the ‘Mixed’ Noticeboard for those members who wish to take part in this very enjoyable afternoon.
